Another 'similar' idea has been invented by a guy in India where there are lots of street vendors selling food. He designed little spoons that are made of millet/rice flour that are strong enough to spoon up your dish of curry and if you want you can eat them when you're done (crunchy like a thick chip I guess) or you can throw them on the ground and they degrade in a couple days. He felt that the way billions of plastic spoons are thrown away to pollute and kill wildlife was a travesty so he came up with the idea of 'rice' spoons.

This is a pet peeve of the scuba diving community especially. People wonder why I always cut up the rings from six packs and tell them but it's hard for people who have never seen what man made pollution can do to the ocean.
