Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart has passed

Like him or not another one/era disappearing. He helped propel the tv sermon. Show's how many of us are to the final chapter.

Rip

I am also age 90 and used to listen to Jimmy Swaggart on TV on Sundays. I hope I will meet him in Heaven when Jesus comes for me! However, I do wonder if Heaven really has room for all the trillions of human beings who have died since 6,000 BC. Maybe Heaven is compartmentalized so our spirits can wander from one compartment to all the others...?

It would be interesting if all the posters here would post their current age. Then we could all see how "senior" all of us are.

He was a first cousin to Jerry Lee Lewis, the Rockabilly wild man. They both grew up in the same part of Mississippi. I all ways found it funny that one was a bible thumper, while the other one was living the high life and enjoying his success and fame. Which one gets into "Heaven" ? One story has it that Jerry Lee offered his cousin a brand new Cadillac, if the preacher would go on the radio and sing along with him. Can you imagine Jimmy Swaggart belting out a version of " Whole lot of shaking going on ". Or "High School Confidential " ? Given a choice, I would have paid money to see Jerry Lee, not Jimmy. JIM>

You seem to be quite anxious to meet him. Can you please let us know when you see him in heaven? The sooner the better.

I guess I don't care. I was raised Catholic and married a divorced man, so I guess I won't be seeing him in Heaven, though I put up with him in this life. 🙄 My eyes are really rolling on this one.

Protestant's allow divorce and remarriage, Judy. Not that they think it's a cool thing. I'm divorced and my husband's Catholic family thought it was a pity that we had to get married in a Methodist church. Come to think of it the minister who married us was divorced himself.

I never liked Jimmy Swaggart or his show or his big fake tears after he got caught with the prostitute -- but for all I know he truly repented and is in Heaven now. I've known people who take comfort in shows like his, so that's a good thing he did.

Take a look at some of the videos of the universe, Mitch. There will be plenty of room for everyone.
Maybe Heaven is on Jupiter.

But will they be able to roll their eyes at people?
If spirits had eyes, that would be taking up space. Although I understand the question is hypothetical in nature, and belongs under the discipline of hypothetical philosophy. .... or maybe quantum mechanics.

I just remember the guy with tears streaming down his cheeks as he publicly confessed to getting caught with a prostitute. I felt no pity or empathy for him. My disgust with him had bottomed out long before.
My father mentioned that moment, often. What disgusted him most was that Jimmy turned his back to the audience as though he was so ashamed, but held the microphone up to his face so we could hear him sobbing. He was just as much of a showman as his cousin Jerry Lee.

He had no shame at all. Why did he continue his evangelism after the scandal? He should have just withdrew from the public eyes after he admitted and apologized.

I don't know Oldold, but I do believe God calls some very flawed people, look at King David. Reading the comments under his YouTube videos it sounds like his show really meant a lot to some people. I have to admit I really like his voice.

This is for Mitch and me:
