Ever bite yourself inside your mouth while enjoying a meal!

Thank you, Bella, for clarifying that for everyone. It's an option. I saw $$$ when my dentist suggested the "mouthguard". Thankfully, reducing stress worked for me and didn't cost me anything. Never had tooth damage either...but my case may have been mild.

Lara, you ain't just whistlin' Dixie! They cost upwards of $500.00! 😲

"...limit overnight grinding and clenching and their associated consequences. Using a mouth guard separates teeth and prevents tooth damage and may reduce muscle activity due to grinding and clenching."

Go to your local sporting goods store and get an adult mouth guard. You can make them fit your teeth perfectly by following the instructions. Many people use them to protect their teeth when playing sports. They are not expensive or hard to customize. They will do the job just fine...

Grinding or clenching your teeth, is called bruxism. Dentists recommend mouth guards or night guards (intraoral appliances) to help limit overnight grinding and clenching and their associated consequences. Using a mouth guard separates teeth and prevents tooth damage and may reduce muscle activity due to grinding and clenching.

My huzz has always bitten the inside of his mouth or cheek almost every night of his life, would draw blood almost every time and he was so tired of getting woken up by it. So he had our dentist make him a mouth guard and wears it at night and it's been 100 percent effective; it's been about 6 months and he hasn't bitten his mouth one single time. The total cost was going to be about $300 IIRC, but our insurance did kick in and it only cost about $100.

Been there, done that…hurts big time! If I’m able, a salt water rinse, not sure why, but it’s what I do. Until the next time. I think it happens when I’m eating too fast, not sure.

Yes, and it raises a fresh bloody bump, so then if not very, very careful I'll bite it again. I sit here and I guess I must be starting to drift off, and suddenly I bite my tongue. Wakes me up real fast! That happens too darned often!

You can buy hockey mouth guards, regular, over the counter. Hot water and your new mouth guard fits your mouth! Didn't cost anything near 500 smackers!

Professionally made dental guards are expensive, and they fit properly. OTC do it yourself dental guards can be difficult to work with and they don't always fit properly, but if they work for some people, that's great. 😁

Once in awhile I bite the inside of my cheek and my tongue. What is worse is when my jaw clicks and I get stabbing pain in my ear. Thank God none of those things has happened recently. Knock on wood just in case....lol

I have done that too Fanci. It feels like a chewing reflex gone wrong and yes, it hurts. Like you, I make a conscious effort not to do it again but as time passes, perhaps I'm not as conscious of it as when it last happened so it's subject to happen again. I wish I could give advice as to how to stop doing it.

Worked for my DH for many years. He was a teeth grinder.

I think the vinegar causes a bit of puckering that makes it easier to bite the inside of the mouth. And also, an area that has been recently bit may be a little swollen and more prone to be bit again.

I have done this and do not know how to stop it. I slow down, chew more consciously, then one day, it happens again!!! OUCH!!!!! I was just eating a buttery biscuit and anything with butter is just really delicious! Then, I bit the front side of my tongue!!!!! OUCH! Again! Oh, please someone help me. I don't do it real often, but about the time you can enjoy something, pow! Most of the time, I can enjoy a meal or snack without an event. Nothing severe ever happens. Kind of like being a senior, surprises happen.
I do it, so annoying. Might help seeing the dentist for advice, maybe some tooth is jagged.
Otherwise 8 maintain good hygiene by using Listerine as well as brushing teeth twice daily, to maximise healing of inside of cheek.
