Ever Get The Pink Slip?

In my early years, I flipped from job to job, sometimes quit sometimes shown the door.

The hardest thing though was firing someone else, big boss told me to sack the man and left for vacation. Cowardly.

Sooooo how was your work record?

No, never was fired but in my days as business owner, I gave a few. At's a necessary part of being in charge. Not everyone fits every job.

Yup, the company wanted me to cheat and I refused to do so and then was shown the door. I could’ve pursued legal action but by that time I was so upset I needEd time to get my peace back.

I changed jobs a fair bit too, within departments (Civil Service). Have never been given the pink slip, but finally decided to leave the government job to work for an American dealer of European and Asian antiques. The pay was less, but I enjoyed it immensely. Of course, now that I'm older, I realize that if I'd stuck it out with the government job, I would be getting a lot more CPP. However, it was good while it lasted .. 3 raises per year, 2 weeks paid vacation and 1 1/2 accumulated sick days per month, plus, we always got to meet the government big-wigs around Xmas.

never been fired --sacked we call it here ' but I had to let a guy go in a department store ' which did not like one bit .

i have never been given a pink slip--i did quit a job at a nursing home where the manager of the kitchen hired me to be a snitch-some one was stealing food from the kitchen -there is no way i would snitch on someone -they might get me later or do someting to my car

Same here. "If you're not willing to commit fraud, you're not part of the team" & fired me. A couple of places tried that on me, but it cost them - big time. Two of them were forced to close.

Yes the company that did that to me went bankrupt so justice was served in the long run.

I once had the extreme pleasure of firing one of our out-of-control, PITA, Government Customers by telling them that our little high tech company would no longer do business with them.

laid off for lack of work in construction a few times, never laid off while they were hiring. I do have a job that I was, well not sure fired or quit, will have to tell you later. :)

Self-employed, most of my life. On one wage slave job I worked, I got up, at a morning company meeting, loudly told off the District Manager, quit, and left the meeting. An employee, a brother musician who toured with some big names, asked me to hold on while he got his stuff. We went out and had breakfast. Great memory. Never saw that guy again.

Sure, several times. They were jobs I hated and would have quit but by letting myself be fired I was eligible for unemployment insurance. Being fired builds character. I did manage to hold on to my last job for over 25 years though.

No. After my 4 years in the military, I worked the next 35 years 'til retirement. There was a path of advancement that I followed and things worked out well. I did my job and did it well. Got along with fellow employees for the most part but it was never more than a way to earn a living.

Family was always came first in my version of life and there was no "hand wringing" or difficult "adjustment" when I left. I took advantage of an early retirement offer and never looked back.

My outlook was always that our days, for the most part, have three 8 hour periods. We sleep for 8, work for 8, and spend the last 8 with our family. When the choice came to up my family time to 16 hours, there was no question of where I preferred to be. Anyone that does find it more enjoyable to spend their time at work, rather than with their family must have a rather unpleasant family or a huge ego where "the job" is their life. JMHO

Nope, I only had two jobs....other than pumping gas while in high school. I spent 7 years in the USAF, then landed a good job with IBM when I left the military.
