Ever Had Jewelry Made ?? Looking For Ideas

I've never had any custom designed and made jewelry.

I have a natural AAA 1 ct Sapphire birthstone ring I had made about 30yrs ago at a one man operation in Virginia Beach Virginia. He didn't "make" the ring. He "put it together". The mount is a standard jewelry catalog ordered mount.

I have my mother's Diamond earrings. She always said she wanted me to have them, so they were passed to me.

So anyway, over the years I've thought about incorporating the Sapphire and my mother's earring Diamonds into one ring. I think it could look stunning in the right mount. But I have NO idea where to begin working out the details of a custom designed and made ring ... or who to even contact for such an endeavor.

I don't wear jewelry much anymore and it's just something I've long thought about, would be a nice to have thing for that rare occasion.

I also have an antique 1 ct Mine Cut Diamond that could be tossed into the mix for the right inspiration but really think a reasonable men's jewelry piece couldn't be configured with all the gems and besides the Mine Cut is much different from my mother's smaller round cut diamonds.

So I'm in the day dreaming phase of a Sapphire and Diamond ring that would have much sentimental value ... to me ... and just tossing the Mine Cut out there as an "oh by the way". The Mine Cut has history as well sentimental value ... to me ... too. It belonged to my stepdad, Mr. Bill, and he inherited it from his father.

I'm ready to contact someone about making a ring and don't know where to start ... or who to trust.

... maybe I should just get my ears pierced and call it a day ;) :ROFLMAO:

That is something I used to do in my younger years. What you need is a "manufacturing jeweler". If you are near a major metro area it should be fairly easy to find one. You could take it to a local jeweler but they would just forward it off to someone else and take their middle man cut. I agree the mine cut doesn't need to go in with that. I think it looks good in the setting it is in. I always liked the old fashioned settings for the mine cuts.

Thanks @DebraMae !!! :)

The Mine Cut mount is not original. I have no idea what the original mount looked like. Just know it was a men's mount.
For some reason in 1942 (jewelers inscription inside ring) Mr Bill decided to have it remounted. Don't know why.
I DO very much like the current Mine Cut mount. I thinks it's just classic and maybe looks older than it is. Just that it's not the original mount. Much more recent than when originally mounted sometime in the 1800's.

My stepdad, Mr Bill, was born in 1899. His father was a county Circuit Judge. Mr Bill had told me that his dad won the diamond ring in a poker game with a riverboat captain. Paddle wheeled steamboats were a common occurrence way back then, up and down the river in the river port city where I grew up.

Great story about Mr. Bill’s ring. I like it.

Who will eventually inherit the new sapphire and diamond piece? If a female, try to have something designed that can easily be reshaped for a woman. Depending on the gold in the earrings, that has value. It could help offset the cost.

My stepfather had a ring with a centre stone and small diamonds on each side.

Have you considered a bracelet. Or a special knife with the stones in the handle.

Years ago I had some gold jewellery combined to make a necklace. The local jeweller didn’t do a great job.

I saw a pendant in a jewelry shop in Kauai, and I got an idea. My wife had her old engagement ring with a 2.5 carat diamond from her late husband. I had a heavy gold bracelet given to me by my late wife.
We took them to a jeweler and had a pendant made that far outdoes the one we looked at on Kauai. The stone on the original was 1/4 carat.

@Jules ... Some excellent jewelry ideas !!! No idea who would end up with the jewelry. I've never married and have no children. Extended family is scattered. My nearest and only immediate family relative still living is a brother one year younger than me and he is several hundred miles away. Not only that but he (retired pastor) and his children and grandchildren are Pentecostal. They don't wear jewelry at all.

I have a family member who re-worked her wedding and engagement rings into something she could wear daily and it only cost $100. Start by finding independent jewelers near you and ask for consultation, tell them you're just getting ideas of what you want to do. Visit a few and see if you find something you'd like at a price you want to pay.

I had my grandma’s wedding ring and 2 other rings melted down and made into an entirely different ring. I went to my local jeweler that I had bought other jewelry from because they did their own custom jewelry. He asked me questions, drew a few options and I picked the one I wanted. It cost 800 13 years ago.
