Ever have an idea of something you want to do but...

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
You realize it's impractical, or it's too time consuming, or maybe too expensive, or whatever you see the constraint to be? I have had an idea for years of a silly thing I want to do, but keep dismissing it as exactly what it is, stupid. Since I was a young kid (I'm an old kid now) I have wanted to get a big balloon (BIG) and a large tank of Helium and send it aloft. Just that. Just to watch it climb and disappear from sight. Just once before I die. Stupid I know and I guess that's why I haven't done it.

Do you have something you have thought about doing but haven't? What? Why haven't you done it?

OK, here's one. I would like to have a huge trampoline in my backyard. But I would probably be too embarrassed to use it unless I invited all the neighbors to join. And then I'd never get to use it.

And evidently my insurance rates would go up because that's one of the questions they always ask.

Maybe I'll think of another one later.

Not a stupid idea at all, you just need a cohort to join you. If you were here in my part of the world I would join you because I think it would be fun.

I don't think that's a stupid idea at all...do you mean a big balloon the size of a hot air ballloon or smaller...I'm sure that's dooable. I know hot air balloons are expensive I have a friend who is part owner of one...but a helium balloon,? I dunno..but if it's affordable why not? At the end of it all Jim you only have one chance..

Oh it's not the cost. I am not thinking anything like hotair balloon. 6-8 ft dia. I think I just have to convince myself it's not too childish and stupid.

No way is it Childish.....think of all the grown men who fly kites up on the hills on a windy day or down on the beach and now these new drones too .. no-one gives them a second look. Go for it I say...

Probably, although nothing comes to mind at the moment. I think you should go for it, Jim! What the heck! We all already know life is way too short.

A few years ago we were visiting our friends at their camp on a mountain top. They hauled out a tank of helium (you can get them at party stores,) a bunch of regular sized balloons, and a bunch of glow sticks. We put the glow sticks in the balloons, filled them with helium, and sent them drifting off over the valley long after darkness had fallen. It was the coolest thing ever!

We made sure to watch the local news the next night for ufo reports, but there were none.

Yeah, Jim...how dangerous can it be?

Yikes, Meanderer.

I actually witnessed a hot air balloon coming down for an emergency landing, just a little too fast. I was in the office and the thing landed outside the large windows while we watched helplessly.

It landed HARD; the basket tipped over and the people fell out! While it was sailing in for the landing, the balloon company's car came speeding along to assist; several people rushed from the car to the passengers.

We heard later that they were alright but quite shaken up.

So AZ Jim, no passengers, ok?

That sounds really nice Jim and I was going to tell you that you should do it, till I read someone on here saying it might somehow cause a plane to crash. Yeah, that wouldn't be good. Would you get the same feeling if you turned lose 50 small balloons? If there is something you've always wanted to do, I think you should do it.

I can't think of anything I've wanted to do that I haven't done. Doesn't mean there isn't something, I just can't remember it right now. I woke up my husband, it's (12:30 A.M.) and told him I had an important question for him and I might want to steal it as my own idea, but he just said there wasn't anything he could think of he wanted to do but sleep and went back to sleep. Maybe I'll think of something in the night. You always come up with good questions.

When is was a little kid a bunch of us filled balloons with hydrogen that we made by dropping pieces of zinc into a bottle of muriatic acid and then placing the balloon over the neck of the bottle. The mind boggles at how badly that particular enterprise could have ended.

We then released the balloons and watched them disappear upwards.
Where we lived we were very close to a busy airport for small planes.
What we were doing was totally illegal but as nine year olds we had no idea.

If you want proof that guardian angels exist, I submit the above.

Go For It !!!

I do things at 5-yr intervals ... because of expense, actually. Did a 2-week hike across Norway with a few friends. Started in Oslo. Sometimes hiked 10 miles a day. Some bus rides from one area to another. I was 65 and had trained like crazy for half a year. Even so, I pooped out at the last hike before leaving Bergen.

Next 5-yr "biggie" was to raft Grand Canyon. I lived in Tucson for over 20 years. Had been up to Mogollon Rim and down the Salt River area, but had never gotten to the Canyon.

So ... if you are dreaming about doing something -- Go For It !!!

Not me.. but my husband has an idea for a perpetual motion engine... and he is sure it could work.. I figure someone would have come up with one by now if it was possible.
