Ever Think You Recognize Someone On A Forum?

And if you were only 90% sure would you ask them to be sure or just let it go?

I probably would not ask them myself, but sheesh it sure looks like someone I know. Hmmmm maybe I'll ask someone that also knows them if they have a certain unusual item showing in their avatar.
If I liked the person, I start a 'conversation', and make sure it's they're the right one. If I didn't like them, I'd just let it go.

I "recognize" several posters from other forums, but no one from real life.
Having been a member of several forum and chat sites, I'm pretty sure I have come across the same people. It just shows that our style of writing reveals our personality.
I wonder if anyone has recognised me?

So far i have not had reason to think i have encountered someone i know on a forum such as this. But if you are Welsh, like rugby and sheep, do you think you know me?;):D
it is possible i have actually met someone from another forum....we have been to several of the same events....
Now twitter is a whole different ball game....

Over the years I’ve recognised a few people from previous sites by their style of writing but personally, I would not contact them, with a different user name, avatar and empty profile I imagine they want a fresh start

Most of us forum old timers do recognize others from other forums as I do here.

It's easy for members to recognize someone as a simple remark they make is a tell all.

That's the reason I don't try to disguise myself, I gotta be me.

Yes, we have met on more than one other forums. You use the same name, I don't

This is my first attempt at social media. So far, no-one seems familiar - but that's okay. I like to read books with good character-development that occurs slowly throughout the work. For me, this feels the same - slowly getting to 'know' folks. I actually prefer not knowing physical appearance or gender. It makes me more open to understanding the inner person.

I would never post a picture of myself. Although Iris is my real name and the area I am from is true, that is all you get. As for recognizing others; it doesn't matter, some I like, some I don't and that is ok. It is nice to know what area someone is from and it shows me how others think from different areas of the world. Not much of a techie as when I reply the post doesn't look like anyone elses and I don't know how to pm someone and post pictures, etc. etc. etc.

yes there's quite a few on here I know or knew from other forums... including the lovely Lee (and many have remained friends from those forums too, whereas others if they want to be someone else or not be known from another forum then I don't call them out on it) ... . I don't hide anything about myself, (except I don't have the same name on any of the other forums)... but everyone knows me from either my style of writing, or my photos...

Hi Iris - when you hit reply, there are ?icons? on the top edge. The rectangle brings up the box to upload a photo. The envelop at the top of the web pages is how to start a private conversation. Being new, I had to have this all explained to me.

Nah I couldn't find anything.

There is one member I've "kinda thought" was here years ago with a different screen name, and I think the person was banned. But I wouldn't say who, because I wouldn't want the person to get in trouble if 'they' are the same person.

And if it was a long time ago and the person is now a good contributing member to the forum then no harm in that. People do change.

Yes, and I know the Admins here are super people, although I don't know what their policies are regarding banned members. So I wouldn't want to cause any difficulties for anybody.
