Ever wish to move far away but never did?

Have you or do you wanted to move, not just visit, to another city, state or country, but you never did?
Why didn't you move? Were you single or married? I don't mean vacation or military service.
Do you regret not going, or okay staying where you are.
Was it a free choice or what?

I been all over the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Nothing is better than the 300 mile circle of
my home here in the MidWest.

Only real complaint are the potholes caused by
1000's of 77 mph 18 wheelers, 24 /7's, 365 days,
a year.

50 miles in any direction from my place and its
Road Repairs / Bridge repairs and it only last a
year or so and falls apart again. DOT's are B.S..

I've always wanted to live near the ocean and where it's not so horribly hot but could never afford to. Then in recent years, wanted to live closer to town in a "walkable" area--we live within walking distance of absolutely nothing now--but have given up on that since it's become clear to me Huzz will never ever move. So I'm never getting out of this place except a nursing home or the morgue, whichever comes first.

Can you drag Huzz out to a vacation on the beach?

I am itching! It is just time again!
Last night I offered a tiny house with two bedrooms and a barn closer to SO's playground in Luther which is about an hour drive. The closest town is Edmond, OK with all the amenities one can ask for. No, huge barn to park an RV and live in it is not an option! Let's see what he finds as far as land is concerned and utilities/water. That was the deal breaker with several barndominiums in that area so far.

We discussed about selling and moving away from here before I retired. Not to far, 40-50 miles away. I had spent 35 years working EMS in our small county and there's hardly a road that doesn't harbor a memory of someone's misfortune. I drive by roadside crosses every time I leave the house regardless of direction, in the 12 mile ride to town I pass 5 different multi-fatality spots. The memories will always be there, but seeing the spots can trigger them.

But we did end up moving.... 1.2 miles..... bought the house we rented from 85-94.

He's always ready to get in the car and go somewhere--says he feels like he was born behind the wheel of a car--but I can't handle very long car trips anymore and there's nowhere around here worth going to that is a short drive away. (We almost literally are in the middle of nowhere; no wonder he loves it here; it means he can get in the car and just drive and drive and drive.)

I'm contented living in Ohio these days. It has a nice mid-range climate. I no longer have any family left in West Virginia although I still love it there and it calls me back at times.

I always had a fantasy of living in Alaska, but I wouldn't have the energy for it now.

We moved all over for my ex-husband's job: Missouri to DC/NoVA, Upper Michigan, back to Virginia, out to Nevada, then up to North Dakota. I couldn't make the kids move again after he walked out, even though I detest North Dakota. My daughters had already been in 7 different schools by that point, and I wanted them all to have some stability.

I've posted about this before. I tried to move a couple of years ago but got derailed by medical and tax bills. I'd love to do a long-term visa and stay in a country cottage in the UK or Switzerland or somewhere. I haven't gotten financially close enough to start thinking about specific logistics. 'Til then I just dream. :giggle:

But yeah, if I had the financial wherewithal I'd be outta this state in a flash.

We bought a house in Spain and lived there for the better part of 10 years... I learned a lot living in Spain and for that I'm grateful. I didn't like the corruption at govt and police level.. the great difficulty in dealing with beaurocracy even as simple as trying to pay an electric bill.... and also a lot of victim crime, likemuggings in plain daylight.... but other than that I loved it...

The house is now up for sale as part of the divorce proceedings.. so tbh, if I ever do return to live, I will rent... too much hassle and problems with owning a house as foreigner in Spain...

When my kids were young (or not born yet), I wanted to move a bit south to southern WI, but it never worked out job wise. Wish it could have worked out as we did not have too much keeping us here way back. Now, with kids and grandkids nearby, I wouldn’t think of it.

The only other country that I ever thought about living in was the U.K., well actually London, England. Back in the Viet Nam days, I was thinking about Canada. I knew that I never would want to go to Viet Nam. I was anti-war (still am). But my birth date, was one of the last numbers drawn in the Draft Lottery. My mother was worried sick. I wasn't because I would refuse to go. Later I got out of it because of hardship. I was the oldest surviving male in the family, and was working to help support the family.

I've been to 39 states, and lived in 4 of them (New York, New Jersey, Florida, & California).

Yes, I lived in most states and a few countries. It's how I always lived, sometimes I would just go at a moments notice........Poof, I'm gone. I have been in this location for 13 years now. Longest I have ever been in my life, and I'm getting that itch.
