Everything Everywhere All at Once, overrated!

When you think of all past Wonderful Movies that have won "Best Picture" at the Academy Awards and the best they can do is come up with this rubbish!
I can't help but feel that Everything Everywhere All at Once really buckles under the weight of its own creativity. It's a film that's trying to be a lot of different things. It wants to be an art film, a sci-fi film, a kung fu film, a comedy/absurdist film, and a family drama. I admire the ambition but it really began to feel like way too much after a while. The pacing is so breakneck that I literally began to get a headache, and it was hard for me to get emotionally attached to anything in the story because the movie was just throwing so much crap at me constantly. It felt like the directors were trying way too hard just to show off. In a word Drivel!

I didn't really dislike it but agree it was too long. It did have really good acting and I think Stephanie Hsu--played Joy--did the best acting of all, really enjoyed her character. I haven't seen any of the other best pic nominees.

Yeah, I don't have any desire to see that. Not my kind of movie.

I usually enjoy weird movies, but this one was weird and I couldn't finish the whole thing. So what happens? It gets an Oscar.

It's a new game in movies entirely. Anything goes and creative originality is a winner regardless. Didn't see it. And won't so I can't say more. But I think Elvis actor should win a award

I agree on your description of the movie, I tried to watch it too but decided it just was not for me.

It's an acquired taste!

I really loved it! I started out disliking it because I usually don’t like the type of movie I thought it was going to be…and it WAS difficult to keep up with the fast pace but I hung in there. I wanted to see why it won 7 Oscars.
I became accustomed to the pace and really started to enjoy it. It really was a movie that was everything, everywhere and all at once! I found it very entertaining, brilliant and strangely emotional as well!

i agree with the original comment but I give the creators for trying to do something different. Theatrical releases seem to be dominated by action oriented movies set in the MCU so I give credit to any studio/director who goes against the grain. If 2001 was released today I have a feeling most would find it slow and plodding.

Most of my viewing time these days go to TV series. There are some gems out there that do cater to the story and character development over flashy action and blue screen effects. Even though it a post pandemic universe, I found this first season of The Last of Us (HBO) more moving and involving then just about any movie I have watched in the past decade.

Often The Academy and I don't agree on what should be given "the best" awards. I like Michelle Yeoh, but this film was too much of everything, everywhere all at once, and although I slogged through it, I didn't enjoy it.

I agree with you, Mark, about TV series being more pleasurable to watch than films these days. For one thing, they can tell a more complete, well-rounded story because there's more time than is available in a two-hour film to flesh things out.

Even though I've had my fill of vampires 🧛‍♂️️, werewolves 🐺, aliens :alien:, and zombies 🧟‍♂️️. I gave "The Last Of Us" a shot even though I wasn't expecting to like it, but it surprised me. It's got a great story line, well-developed characters that you get to know and can actually feel something for, and believable special effects. (y)(y) I'm looking forward to Season 2.

No spoilers but that final scene of The Last of Us floored me.
