interesting what happened to the third rider ^^ ^^. The horse didn’t lay down with her (they’ve been known to do that in the water) because the horse and all its tack are dry .
I didn't even think about it when I posted that picture. Just liked the horses going through the water. Maybe they are looking for her or maybe she was afraid to ride through the water. Just guessing.

It is a bit of a puzzler because the water is so shallow where they are. I’ve done a lot of trail riding, slid down a lot of riverbanks and swam across my share of rivers.

My initial thought was maybe where they had to come into the water was a steep embankment, the rider was not experienced, afraid and couldn’t handle the horse. Or maybe she fell off sliding down the riverbank and decided to walk to wherever the other side was.

BUT———— It would also be something if the person who took that picture is the person who was riding that horse.

The more I look at that picture and think about it, the more I think the rider of that horse is the one who’s taking the picture because she wanted the scenery with her friends and her horse in it. That makes the most sense what do you think @katlupe?

YES! I think that makes perfect sense!

Happy Fourth of July......... I guess that is how they do it in Texas!

Yes. Equine drill teams are a huge deal in Texas. A horse forum acquaintance is part of an equine drill team. They all ride Paint Horses. She posted fotos on the forum, but I can’t repost them somewhere else.

Drill teams put in many hours of practice and hope their horse doesn’t pull up lame the day of the event. It takes a horse well trained in the “dance routines“ plus a horse calm enough to put up with all the noise, fireworks people screaming, etc. You just don’t go to the pasture and pull another paint horse out if it hasn’t been schooled in the drill team complexities..

My forum friend recently retired her 22 year-old paint horse due to arthritis. She has had several horses offered to her and sent them back because they just didn’t fit the bill. This last go around I think she finally found one who could put up with all the drill team excitement.

but yes, equestrian drill teams in Texas are a big honking deal. They perform at just about any event you can think of.
