Examples of why I never give respect based on a profession.

Two instances of people willing to throw their professional life away over shoplifting .... do people simply have no sense.

case #1
MSN
An assistant school principal was arrested in Georgia after she allegedly stole nearly $1,000 from a Walmart by using the 'stacking' method at the self-checkout line.

Courtney Janell Shaw, 47, was taken into custody on Monday by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office after she allegedly stole 98 items from the store over a two-month period, police said.

CASE #2
  • A Florida doctor was reportedly arrested for stealing from a local Target
  • The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office charged Lindsey Jae Minshew with Grand Theft
  • "The suspect stole $2,716.61 worth of merchandise," according to the JSO
A Florida doctor has been arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars' worth of products from a department store, police said.

Lindsey Jae Minshew, 40, was booked on Jan. 23 and charged with grand theft of an amount between $750 and $4,999, according to online records from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

According to Action News Jax, Minshew has been a licensed medical professional practicing in the state of Florida since January 2012, citing the Florida Department of Health.

That has to be a sickness.
I think it’s been referred to as kleptomania. It’s when people will steal out of impulse, instead of financial need.

I remember in my early days in the Corps, we had a Marine that was originally caught shoplifting hundreds of dollars of items from a sporting goods store. A detective came into the office and asked for permission to speak with the NCO.

After the investigation was over, they found numerous stolen items in his apartment and truck.
I think the stolen merchandise totaled around $4000. He had numerous legal problems handling the situation.

If you watch the cop shows in the USA, there are LOADS ..and I mean loads....of videos of cops arresting people in supermarkets for theft, and discovering they're Nurses or Doctors.. even Police officers..... so I'm not at all surprised any more...

it is not so much the surprise ... it is throwing away your profession in many cases or something in a moment. they will be let go from many places now on a background check for future employment ... seems like a lot at risk for so little reward.
I do not think it is about money... or thrill of getting away with it......... but a sense they are entitled even saw some of the shows you speak of and they tried to use "I was not stealing I am (insert job) " like the job defines who they really are.

Most people work to live not live to work. Even doctors, lawyers etc.

Many can stay focused on the straight and narrow when trying to achieve a goal but once there they can get lost in more ways than one.
