Experienced an Epiphany, Now I Need to Vent.

I always hated, still hate and will continue to hate cheap particleboard furniture. Give me solid wood any day! Most cheap furniture today is made of glued sawdust with a cheap veneer finishing. It's doesn't last and it looks like crap!
Absolutely, I won't have it in the house.

Learned my lesson from cleaning up after floods. Real wood may need a bit of refinishing but it comes out fine. Particle board stuff just dissolves.

When it came time to get cabinets I specified only solid wood or plywood, no particle board. It was a fight, amazing how many names they give particle board to hide with it really is, melamine and the like. And some even call it "solid wood". Its all just shavings and glue to me!

This thread is off the rails. Hop on over to Amazon and do a search for solid wood furniture. You will get over 80,000 results -- much of it looks, and is, very credible. Sure machinery played an important role in the manufacture of most of it, but so what? Would anyone who posts here really want to pay the price of a handmade oak table or chairs? If so, there is no shortage of used furniture stores, thrift shops, and antique shops. It all comes down to value for the buck. Do any of us drive a hand made car or sit in front of a hand made computer or TV screen? I doubt it. Modernity may sometimes be annoying, but it brings with it blessings not available to our predecessors, so enjoy that car, computer, and the phone you carry in your pocket.
