Exterminating an invasive species?

I love cats but I've seen what a large group of them can do. I used to feed a couple of strays and that turned into a small army and they fought with each other and bred like crazy. They had a wicked amount of fleas. It got so bad that they're kittens were being born and getting fleas so bad that the fleas were killing the kittens.

Then we had dead kittens all over the place and the fleas were so bad in the yard they were infesting the house. And nobody will help. At best they offered me traps for them and then they offered to take them in and euthanize them at my expense. I have never fed another stray since.

I don't believe in killing them but what else can be done if animal control won't help? they can be dangerous and spread disease among other things. some cities have used lethal and non lethal ways to deal with them according to google.

People with small children should never keep large snakes, they’re dangerous, and too many people just don’t understand that. That boa could have killed your child.
Absolutely. People buy these types of reptiles not taking into consideration, the size and danger they WILL become..

I can understand that. I was cooking once and one tried to throw itself into my second floor apartment by hoping on a neighbors car. Despicable beasts.

Fury Critters don't like good quality Ammonia much.
Mix it with bleach and ya got poison gas. Cause you
need specific safety equipment to survive it too.

I cut down a large bush near the house and a Wood Chuck decided to move out from the area.
Food source and quality drinking water near attract them.

Call the exterminator is a great choice here.
I evicted a skunk family a couple of years ago from under the porch.
Mama with one in her mouth and the strongest of the tribe walking beside.
Daddy with another toddler in his, all headed for the timber.
There had been sightings of a black panther, so they tried the porch was the thoughts.
With the Deer population multiplying, Coyotes and Wolves are present.
Those deer are everywhere in the big Metros, liking our wooded areas.

I completely avoid feral cats myself. I don't know if the one that bit you was, but they are nasty creatures. I can't even use the picnic area at my building. They poop and have sex everywhere. I wouldn't kill one, but there plenty of dead kitten and cat bodies in the area, and I don't mind that.
Think some of the Ferals are let loose of the pounds too.

Yes, those filthy creatures are a real menace, dumping plastic in the seas, polluting our cities with smog, and doing their part for global warming too. If only feral cats would stop driving their SUVs and tossing their empty coffee cups everywhere.

The spread of the Black Death in Europe was partly worsened by the widespread killing of cats. During the Middle Ages, cats were often linked to witchcraft and the devil, so they were hunted and killed. In places like Rome and other European cities, this caused rat populations to explode. Those rats carried fleas infected with the bacterium that caused the bubonic plague. Ironically, the very animals that could have kept the rats in check were wiped out because of superstition, making the plague far worse. So we would be wise to remember that a healthy feral cat populations can help control rat populations and limit the spread of disease.

It's a vicious circle.

Basically, a Feral cat cannot be house trained,
they will crap & piss wherever you like to be.
If a door is closed they will tear up the carpet,
door or floor / wall because. It's their way.
They demand 24 hour attention. U their stooge!
If you just took a bath, expect shit in the tube soon.
On the floor in front of the stool, by the front door.
Your life has turned to smelling cat shit / urine.

It won't matter, you can hire a cat watcher. won't change it.

If I lived in the rural county place they will crap at your door,
in your garage, in front of it, whatever.

I would just shoot em with buckshot.

It is illegal, in Massachusetts anyway, to trap and relocate animals. If you are a homeowner you can trap something damaging your property but you must kill it. Its meant to stop the spread of diseases and for the animals welfare among other things. Whatever you do never use poison, the dead or dying animal could be eaten by other wildlife like owls or hawks who will also be killed. Plus it is indiscriminate, anything including pets could eat it.

Same here in California at least with ground squirrels, which carry diseases.

Yes. My first husband collected exotic reptiles. He had a 13 foot python and several boa constrictors.

One of the big boas got loose and we figured it had gone outside and frozen to death. Then one night, months later, while he was away at his job (the zoo) I put my toddler to bed, turned out the light and then reached up to push his door all the way open. I don't like doors at half mast.

I felt something I thought might be a quilt, but I turned on the light and saw it was the boa, about twice the size he used to be, over ten feet, I got a trash can with had a tight lid, opened the lid, and grabbed him behind the head, the only place small enough to get my hand around. I slammed him down into the trash bin and closed and sealed the lid before he knew quite what was happening.

When the husband came home I told him what had happened and his first concern was that the poor snake might have smothered to death.

Ex-husband. Talk about your invasive species.

Sometimes the feral cats aren't the root of the problem.

The people (trashy rats) that live across the street from me keep free roaming and stray cats. They introduced many of them and when the population dwindles, they reintroduce other kittens and cats to the feral population.

I tried talking to the woman over there and she "explained" to me in no uncertain terms that (domestic) cats have a RIGHT to live free.

What's to do when animal control won't become involved? Well, in urban environments, native snakes are usually at a minimum, so rat and mice populations increase. Feral cats help hold the rat and mice population in check but also kill birds, squirrels, snakes, lizards and who knows what else.

What they do bother is my dog(s). The dogs don't like them. Oh, the trashy rat's dogs across the street get along with them because they were raised with them. But my dog(s) want nothing to do with cats except kill them.

Twice I've had to go to the vet with injury and infection to my dogs. Multiple follow up visits resulted. I would guess I'm out just under a grand ($1,000) because of vet bills on my dogs associated with feral cats the trashy rats introduced. And that's when I spoke with the trashy rat "lady" across the street and was told cats have a RIGHT to live free.

So I've tried to train the feral cats not to come onto my fenced property. I use a Daisy BB gun that is not powerful enough to penetrate hide, to remind them to stay away. Between startling them with a pop from the BB gun and aggression my dogs have shown them, the cats have learned for the most part to keep out of the fenced and enclosed area of my property. They still cross the parts of my property that aren't fenced and enclosed though.

The root of the problem around here? Stupid a55 no class ignorant people.

You live in the country, out on a farm and need a barn cat or two? ... fine, not a problem ... but here in town, keep them away form me, my dogs and my property. If you don't, I will help you. ... I don't kill them but will actually save their lives, trying to train them to keep away from my dog(s). My dog(s) love people but hate cats.

Please enlighten me as to how you know this to be true about feral cats not being able to be house trained????

I can prove your theory wrong with my own indoor feral cats! I've never had any of those issues you speak about.
