FAA Clears Flying Car For Take Off By 2022

I've read that larger drone-type aircraft capable of transporting human passengers are also a possibility, but given the problems encountered so far with self-driving cars, I'm not ready to turn over my life to either. It will be a while yet before the "flying cars" of the Jetsons are here...

Maybe it will be great, but all I can think of is: what can possibly go wrong!

Imagine having to get lessons to pilot a flying car (or the air/road hybrid mentioned in the linked article), and then passing the driver's test.

From the article: "A flight-only version of the craft is now available to pilots and flight schools". Note that it mentions pilots ... people trained to pilot an aircraft.

And they feel the air/road hybrid can be accomplished by 2022. That's next year.

Myself, I like these designs better.

I want something that actually looks like a flying car, not an airplane.

My sentiments exactly Devi ! Some people can't drive while on the road. Imagine those same types of people flying an airborne vehicle!
@Aunt Marg I do like the modern looking ones better too. I like the red one (second from the bottom) and even the black one above that.

I love them all, OneEyed! :)

What fun it would be to travel in one!

But, how will you park them at Costco?
All with come with a quiet idle option, where once set, the craft hovers an X-amount of feet above the ground, then a telescopic ladder deploy and lowers to the ground to allow occupants to disembark the craft, and just as modern day vehicles have remotes, you click one of the buttons on your trusty little remote gadget, the telescopic ladder retracts, and when you return, your craft is waiting, still quietly running, and so another click of the button, down comes the telescopic ladder, up you go, and away you go!

Way back in the '30s, Ford Co. was working on a flying car. The concept was to mass manufacture them like the Model T's. I think every World's Fair since the '20s has had a flying car. To be honest, I don't see a real need for one. Land based transportation is almost as quick, cheaper, and way less prone to causing huge catastrophes. Bah. Hum Bug. I have to saddle my horse, now.

Fantastic, @OneEyedDiva -- I remember that movie!
The Fifth Element remains one of my all time favorite movies. I also paid more for the soundtrack than any other CD. I wasn't readily available right after we saw the movie. I think the songs they used perfectly coincided with the action scenes. Loved the blue Diva. First Opera songs I could get into.
