Facebook changes its company name to Meta

Ah, the metaverse. Today I bought stock in a company called Immersion (IMMR) that makes "haptic" (i.e. touch-operated) devices and software to help the metaverse run more smoothly. So I'm glad to see this announcement.

I don't use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest. Just SF. But I love to play the market.

Woot! Bought IMMR this morning at 7.23 and it closed at 7.98. That's over 10 percent in a day, which never happens to me.

The big question is: Should I stay (hold) or should I go (sell)?

See the subliminal message they are giving us by using the word Meta ( from their new opening message )

"Connection is evolving and so are we.

The metaverse is the next evolution of social connection. Our company’s vision is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our commitment to this future."

Now, here's what we also see in those 4 letters...
  • mate.
  • meat.
  • tame.
  • team.
I think you can see what they are dangling in front of us! IT IS WORSE NOW!

I saw a piece about the Metaverse and don’t see much value for me.

I’m concerned that replacing reality with an alternate reality may be unhealthy and dangerous for many young people.

I’m relieved that it’s almost time for me to pass the torch.

The world is changing. I'm not sure it's for the better, but that seems to be what young people want... virtual reality, video conferencing, and other hi-tech stuff. Some of it makes it easier for introverts and misanthropes since you can distance yourself from people more easily and you can disengage with just a click of the mouse. :)

A rose by another name................ Facebook supposedly was a happy little app for friends, and relatives. Then it was unmasked as an insidious marketing ploy to gain every last drop of personal data to sell to anyone, who has cash. Now, it seems Facebook walks away from its obligation to protect its users.

Just an attempt to divert attention from all the recent, negative publicity. Also an attempt to attract younger users. So many of their users are Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation.

I liked Facebook a decade ago when it allowed me to connect with people I hadn't seen in years. Now I know what are doing and I no longer care. I'm not interested in seeing pictures of their food. Since retiring, I find myself "Unfriending" on a regular basis.

I'm waiting for Zuckerberg's face to fall off in an interview, revealing a sinister robot underneath. He is soulless.

Rebranding and making various branches of the mothership easier to sell and limit some liability. Along with hoping the new names helps people forget.

I, for one, enjoy Facebook. It has a lot of good memories for me. Much of my family is on it and so are many friends I've made. I have joined several groups on their too.
