Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are DOWN: worldwide

I haven't looked at Facebook for ages. Today I wanted to have a peek as I know someone who is walking the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain and she posts photos there. So, Facebook is down. Can't say I miss those photos of young people screaming when they are intoxicated or the dogs driving cars. I know there is more to Facebook than this but I seem to be cursed with too many bad photos.
the problem isn't just FB which I'm sure most of us can do without... but WhatsApp is a free text service which keeps families and friends, and carers even, in contact with each other by phone or computer who otherwise might not have contact with anyone at all ..

A little more from Yahoo.com about Mercury, and how it rules all types of communication, and what's in store for 2022

According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, Mercury went into apparent retrograde three times in 2021, which is one period of retrograde fewer than what is expected for 2022. In 2022, Mercury's first period of retrograde begins on Jan. 14 and ends Feb. 3, according to Astrology Zone. The second period of retrograde will last from May 10 to June 2, and the third will begin on Sept. 9 and last through Oct. 2. As a special treat to ring in the new year, the final Mercury retrograde of 2022 will begin on Dec. 29 and end Jan. 18, 2023. Based on all these periods of retrograde, it seems like 2022 will be a year full of unexpected events - so what exactly should you do to avoid trouble during these times when Mercury appears to be doing the moonwalk?

Since Mercury is known by astrologers as the planet that rules all types of communication, it is important to be aware of what you are saying and writing during these times. Whenever Mercury is in retrograde, make sure to double or triple check all forms of written communication, from emails to projects to text messages. The Old Farmer's Almanac also warns that it might be wise to avoid signing any contracts during this time.

We can blame it on the planet Mercury ... it's in retrograde right now - and strange things happen

Whether you're someone who is known for asking for a person's exact time and place of birth within five minutes of meeting them or you have been asked those questions and have absolutely no idea why a stranger at the bar would need that information, you've most likely heard of the phenomenon known as Mercury retrograde, along with the mayhem that is said to accompany it. This strange event, often dreaded by astrologers, refers to an optical illusion in which Mercury appears to move backward in its orbit in relation to Earth. Astronomers call it "apparent retrograde motion," and it's not exclusive to the planet Mercury. To astrologers, however, every last one of Mercury's periods of retrograde causes inexplicable mishaps and tribulations. So if you're someone who is fiercely determined to avoid as many obstacles sent down by the universe as possible, you'll want to know exactly when you should be on the lookout for these planetary changes in the year 2022.

Good grief. All we need is a solar system issue added in the unfun mix! Doubt that's the problem because more than Zuckerberg's system would be down.

I know we all laugh about these things, and I do too.. and I only use whatsapp out of all those things that have gone down today... but really probably WhatsApp is the one which is of any real worth to people who live alone. It's basically a Free text service..so in that way people can be in contact at all times of day or night with loved ones or friends or even carers ... ..

For the rest, Instagram, FB, etc..I couldn't care less...

Just for the record we're still down here in my area, dunno about the rest of the world ...
Still down over here....1:00 pm pacific time.

I care! ..

That would certainly solve our global warming problems. Saw a poll once (US) that 75% of those polled said they wouldn't survive three months without electricity and the infrastructure it supports ...no clean water, food delivery essentially halted due to no electronic communication. A great deal of the DOD uses the regular grid, so no help from the military. Think Ted Koppel's book Lights Out predicted only 10% of the US population would survive a year without electricity ...been a while since I read it but am pretty sure he quoted that from a federal source ...EMP Commission maybe?

Sometimes I think the world would better off if these "Social Media" sites, and even cell phones, crashed, and became unavailable for an extended period of time. It might make people begin to associate more, person to person, and reduce the amount of animosity that seems to be so pervasive, anymore.

I know we can't go back to the "horse and buggy" era but I often think that the world would be a better place without social media. Social media is pretty good if you want to brag about your dog, your cat, your recent holiday to Disneyworld or the new car you bought. However, it spreads rumours and misinformation. Recent examples, are rumours what happens to you when you get the vaccine, where to go if you want to riot and many other examples.
Always amusing when folks use social media (such as this site) to complain about social media (y) :)
