Faking Illness on Social Media For Attention

We had a guy come on our Mental health Forum claiming he was the reincarnation of Henry the 8th. He talked about eating pies for breakfast...drumsticks for lunch...etc.

He was a riot but none of us could tell whether or not he was being serious with us all. Then one day he just disappeared. I think the whole thing was just a humorous spoof.

The old saying, there is a sucker born every minute.
The thought came to me right out of the blue. Haha
Plese send aid to these old Jews from WW2
Just $19 a month and you can aid those holocausts victims.
Just give us your CC # and we can really aid stuff around the world.

I remember coming on a go-fund-me type post some years ago where a person claiming to have dissociative identity disorder (formerly called multiple personality disorder) was trying to raise money to "take the children who were her multiple personalities to Disneyland", because they really, really, really wanted to go. Yeah, really.

And then there's the admittedly-lesser problem of "vague-posting". I know someone who does that frequently on Facebook. Vague-posting is posting something like "Oh, well, I hope tomorrow is better" or "Well, today was terrible" or "Praying that God is kinder to me tomorrow", etc. and leaving it at that. That's followed by many of their friends posting, "What's wrong?", "What happened?", "Are you OK?" The person then usually posts, "Oh, it's OK, I don't want to worry anyone....." or the like. Which, of course, engenders another round of questions. The explanation usually is something like, "Well, I was feeling a little low today...." I don't bite that lure but a lot of others do.

No doubt there are GoFundMe scams but I had a former co-worker pass and the GoFundMe contributions helped her 4 children with life.

My grand-daughter set up a GoFundMe after my daughter died, friends and family chipped in to help with final expenses.

Absolutely, and like all good deed, the scammers jump in and make everybody wary of helping genuine cases...

It is a wonderful tool for helping real life friends.

"My son was shot by the policeman just because he was a foot taller, 100 lbs.
heavier, threatened to take his firearm away from him and shove it up his ass."
In the middle of St. Louis a couple years ago. Thats the best Go Fund Me I ever have heard.

The kids follow the celebrities, and it has become very 'fashionable' to have an affliction these days.

I knew someone like that; chronic illnesses that she miraculously recovered from when no one paid attention. One day she told us she had cancer. No one believed her. She died 3 months later of cancer. sigh.

You may be correct. It is impossible to tell what is REAL in social media since it is a place where anonymity reigns supreme. That is why it exists. To give EVERYONE and EVERYTHING unashamed existence. Best to read it as a comic book.

Brian Buddy, middle finger! ..... :ROFLMAO: .....

The best thing that can be added is Mindless and Ridiculous dribble!
