A magnificent bit of Engineering. The Falkirk wheel is the only rotating boat lift. It raises and lowers boats 79 feet between the Forth&Clyde and Union canals. By applying Archimede's principle, a boat entering one side of the lift, displaces its own weight in water, so by keeping the water levels equal in both sides of the lift it always remains in balance. It therefore requires very little energy to rotate the wheel.

It's really interesting. I biked past that two years back from Linlithgow. Pretty impressive.
