Fall Veggie garden

Good afternoon to all-
Here on the Gulf Coast, fall is one of the very best times of the year for planting- and I'm getting a head start this year. I just replanted green beans and the fall pole beans and long Oriental beans are up and looking quite promising. I grow to like fresh garden beans more every year, and i would welcome some late fall beans, i believe.
I'll plant broccoili and cabbage later- about two months later, and I expect I'll put in snap peas later, too.
Just looking at the trees, we should get a whole lot of sweet oriental pears, and the citrus trees look outstanding- i do love my fresh-squeezed tangerine and orange juice as winter comes.
Does anyone else on this forum garden? I'd like to hear about your garden growing.
Good evening to all- Ed

I wish I had the skills(and good soil) to do a veggie garden. Soil can be amended, but here in the desert there are hordes of rabbits, squirrels, and all kinds of rodents and insects standing by, to digest and destroy and gardening efforts.

I do garden but not for veggies now. I dont really have the space in the back garden without tearing up some lawn. I have grown veggies often in the past and really enjoyed that. I also had an allotment for a time. That is a patch of land provided by the local authority for gardening - most people use it for veggies. The allotment was quite large and allowed me to grow plenty of veggies throughout the year. It was a lot of work and started in autumn with the manuring of the ground. Then the liming in early spring, fertilising a month or so later and then into sowing and planting when the soil had warmed up. Initially I had to clear the ground and rotivate it. After that, it was a matter of turning it and digging it each year. But it was great fun and good exercise.

Love gardens. The garden you describe is much like my grandfather's when I was a child. He grew everything. Both vegetables and flowers and my Gran had an herb garden off to the side. I was so spoiled when it came to food. We had everything and it was fresh and delicious. Gramps even had a fig tree. He'd wrap the bark every winter, then unwrap it every spring. The figs were the best I've ever eaten.
