Family And Not Family Type Movies

Last year we had "Movie Night". A bunch of old retired straight laced people who would leave if there was any foul language. We showed "St. Vincent" which is a very nice/sweet/funny movie. We had seen it and knew the language would be acceptable (only movie when I have seen Melissa McCarthy not be gross). We FORGOT the the opening scene was a pregnant prostitute topping Bill Murray. I paused the movie and apologized and we all had a good laugh about it. Everyone loved the movie. Complete success!
If you've never seen the flick......do so.

Well, we (wife and I) definitely aren't "straight-laced", since we have the movies Weekend At Bernie's, To Paris With Love and Grownups (the first one). Now, both of my SIL's (wife's older sister and my brother's wife) are definitely "straight-laced"...…….heavy-duty Christian ladies. Neither would ever watch these movies and if by chance they did, they would have a one-word description for each...……"gross".

Thing is, I'm not talking about "straight-laced" Seniors watching the movie coming up (Weekend At Bernie's), I'm talking about the possibility of small children in the pool watching.

BUT, as my next door neighbor, who is a single mother of teen, told me, "the decision is really up to the parents. The parents can look at a movie trailer and see how the movie is rated, and know what that rating means, as well as anybody can." I had to agree with her.

I don't know, but do know that one of my step-parents favorite tv shows on the weekend was The Lawrence Welk Show (YUK, in a way). I was in high school during that time. I'd either have to set in the living room and watch that show or go to my bedroom upstairs and listen to my radio. There were times I'd go to my bedroom and work on a model car I was doing. During the last part of my senior year, I didn't have to sit at home on Friday or Saturday night and watch "old people" programs, I was working in an upper-class restaurant both nights and didn't get home until midnight.

LOL I remember also the torture of sitting through The Lawrence Welk Show as a teenager. Like you, I'd usually bail out and do something else. ANYTHING else! Ugh... remember the dancers Bobby and Sissy? (Kill me now.)

Fun fact. Dancing Bobby is the same Bobby as the Bobby in the original Mickey Mouse Club.
An' a one an' a two an a...

Kids frightened by Jurassic Park dinosaurs, well, the kids know they are not real &, I believe, rarely will any kid carry that fear with them from seeing the movie. My gripe is foul language used in PG movies, & sexual situations--there are so many movies for children that give wrong messages that there few that are fine for kids.

Btw, I very much dislike the Harry Potter stories and movies. Uh oh.

I remember when I seen the movie Dracula Has Risen From The Grave. For some reason that movie stuck in my mind.

A friend of mine and myself were visiting her sister. I slept in an upstairs attic, that was converted to a bedroom, with one medium window that faced the bed. Laying in the bed, a person would face the window. It was a full-moon night, with the moon just facing the window.

I think I spent the entire night trying to sleep, thinking about that movie. I could just imagine Christopher Lee (Dracula) standing in the room, by the window and moon, smiling at me with his Vampire fangs showing.

Those type of scary films don't scare me, never have but the ones like "Psycho" and the one where the killer is calling from inside the house asking the babysitter If she's checked the children scare me.

Im okay if I don't watch it right before bedtime.

What we really like is Christian movies, like Do You Believe, Risen, The Shack and one we are about to watch for the first time, I Can Only Imagine.

Melissa McCarthy and Bill Murray two of the funniest Earthlings ever.

Lawrence Welk destroyed my soul as a youth bent on destruction of everything straight laced. I'm surprised it still aired today because of the 99.9% white people on it.

I love the old black & white movies. especially, gangsters, murder mysteries, crimes. Bogart, Cagney, Edward G Robinson. The great ladies of the 30's. I watch TCM like a hawk to make sure I don't miss then when they are on. Can't get enough. Great directors, producers. Truely when the silver screen was king.

Let’s please watch talking about race on this Thread! There are plenty of all white movies. bands, etc. as well as all black of the same.

Perhaps more of America should watch Christian movies. Maybe our society would be in better shape!
