Fart Squirrel

I had a veterinarian friend who brought home an orphaned baby skunk. He "descented" it and kept it as a pet.

It would play just like a kitten and drew a lot of attention whenever he walked it in public (on a leash).

I got a descented skunk for my 12th birthday and had her for two years. They don't make the best pets, but they do make interesting pets.

I suppose that someone who knew what he was doing could teach a skunk tricks, but I didn't have much luck in that area. I did manage to get her "relatively" housebroken and she used a litter box most of the time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the attention I got when I put her harness on and took her places.

She and our outdoor cats had a violent hate/hate relationship. I'd put her in her harness and tether her to a long line attached to the clothes line so she could go up and down the yard catching grasshoppers, which was her favorite thing to do (they must have been delicious.....). The cats would stand just inches from where she could reach and taunt her. She'd have a tantrum. I'd shoo off the cats. It would start all over again. One day she got loose and found one of the older kittens sleeping in the sun on top of the well cap. She promptly attacked the kitten and bit the end of its tail off before I could get to her.

She was very affectionate and liked to lay in my lap on her back and have her belly rubbed. She'd follow me around the house at my heels.

She did have a strong body odor but it wasn't bad, just kind of "wild". Bathing her (which she hated with a passion) didn't seem to help the odor.

I've heard they can be good pets. They are cute!

No way will I bring one in here with 7 cats and a dog!
