Fat on meat!

not like the extra stuff i'm unfortunately carrying around right now. fat (and skin) on meat. if i'm making something like beef stew, i'm meticulous in trimming every molecule of fat off the beef so i KNOW i won't end up with anything unexpected/unpleasant in my mouth.

bacon is almost all fat. it doesn't have to be crumby/crispy but can't have WHITE fat. being slightly "bendy" is idea. i see "pork belly" being featured on TV cooking shows/competitions and almost GAG at the though of eating it. yet wouldn't think of tossing bacon fat... liquid GOLD.

very small amounts of VERY crispy fat on the edge of a nice medium rare steak or nice pork/veal chop can be a very nice treat. a bone-in/skin-on chicken with ultra-crisp skin is delightful.

where do you stand on fat?

I don't eat meat fat. Trim my chicken well. Haven't touched bacon since I was a teenager. (How many here can say that?) Meat fat creates an environment in the body that is receptive to cancer cell reproduction. It's also bad for anyone with any autoimmune disease and diseases of the heart and circulatory system. Seems healthier to me to avoid it.

When I was a child, I was terrified of ingesting any fat. My steak was cleaned of the stuff perfectly. I got so bad, I would stare at my hamburger after I'd taken a bite and If I saw a clear tiny blob, I just knew it was fat and would gag.

LOL, I had no idea that hot dogs, bacon and bologna were practically all fat, so I ate them. The same for butter, but I could not tolerate milk.

Pork belly is really really good, I love Crispy bacon, cheese, yummy, yummy, yummy. I can not digest steak very well, but do fairly well with hamburger. I love roasted bone marrow but it doesn’t have any fat as far as I know. Used to love rib eye steaks when I could eat them.

So yes, I like fat.

If it appeals to me I eat it.

I enjoy the crispy fat from bacon, a pork roast, or a grilled steak but I trim the blubber from prime rib.

I enjoy butter, cheese, bologna, hotdogs, etc... but I try to ward off the evils they contain by eating plenty of salads, whole grains and green vegetables.

IMO if we lived the way our grandparents did with plenty of basic food, exercise, fresh air, clean water, and limited stress we would all be fine especially when combined with today's advanced medical technology.

No fat? Blasphemy! 'Round heah...we eat. Smoked pork butt, brisket, ribs, chicken. All yummy. Steaks get reverse seared and the fat crisped, but the meat is never past medium rare. Country ribs (which aren't ribs, they come from the shoulder), you name it. Cheese? You bet! I also practice charcuterie. Home made sausage, breakfast, kielbasa, bratwurst, hunter sticks.

We do drink skim milk, I guess that's like getting a Big Mac, super size fries, and a diet Coke...

DH basically won’t eat any meat with fat so I don’t bother cooking it. He’ll eat bacon or a hot dog if I serve it. I rarely do since I know he doesn’t like it. Sometimes the fridge is bare, so he gets what’s available.
