Favorite Band - (Only choose one - pretty please with sugar)

Only one?..that's very difficult... but if it HAS to be one then ....

The Everly Brothers
I saw these dudes in concert maybe severn or eight years ago. They sat on stools, sang most of their hits for about two hours and told a few stories about their dad. I really enjoyed their music. Don is/was probably a bit more talented than his brother, but together, they sound very good. Their harmony was absolutely the best.

I never knew that Phil was such a heavy smoker. I think he said he smoked 3 packs per day and quit earlier, but then restarted and finally quit again in 2001. Phil suffered greatly with his COPD. The brothers didn’t get along real well. In fact, I think I read recently that Don was suing Phil’s family over song writes to one or more of the songs they recorded together.

Their dad was a very heavy influence to some old time country stars.

@oldman.... being the superfan of the Everly brothers as I am... I know all about them that's publicly known... I know who their father Ike was , and some of their family members too who weren't so famous.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on who had the more talent.. Phil had hits as a solo singer, many of which are my favourites far more solo hits than Don...but he was the cause of them splitting up for years after he became addicted to drugs and acted very unprofessionally so that finally in the end Phil couldn't stand it anymore, and walked off stage right in the middle of a show when again Don was so out of it he couldn't harmonise properly.

Don always felt he was the better singer but he definitely wasn't , without Phil he would have been a mediocre singer at best.. probably a better writer but not singer ... . Phil said in an interview once.. .. that the reason he decided to split the duo was due to Dons Laissez-faire attitude towards their music. Phil said, that he felt that the fans who had worked and saved for the price of the tickets, and had to travel long distances to see them deserved the best show they could give, and Don wasn't willing to do that, so Phil broke the act up rather than compromise the quality of the shows for the fans . ...

Eventually they got back together again but only for a short time before Phil got serious COPD from smoking cigarettes..

Phil died 6 years ago... and hadn't sung for a while before that. His sons sing now... but they'll never be as good as their father and uncle..

Their sons are sort of like Rick Nelson's twin sons, Gunnar and Matthew. They laso travel around from venue to venue playing and singing Rick's hits and telling stories, but even though they are talented and have a great personality, they do not even compare in sound to their dad.

I will always believe that Don was the more talented writer and singer. Don sang most of the solo parts on their songs together. Phil was the harmonizer and was very good at it. My favorite is "Crying In the Rain." The studio version is much better, as it should be.

I don't know this, but I am beginning to believe that the Everly Brothers may have done a lot of solo stuff over the pond. It was very seldom here in the U.S. that, at least I ever heard them, only singing solo. Maybe they did, but I can't remember every hearing them sing solo while I was growing up. They had some good songs and some so-so songs, but that's just my opinion. When I saw them together live about seven or eight years ago, they actually sounded very good, but the theater that I saw them in is known for having one of the better acoustics for live singing. Almost every group I saw at this venue would mention what a great venue they were playing in because of the acoustics.

When they spoke to the audience and telling some stories about their dad and how they got started in the music business, they didn't come across as glad they were there, if you know what I mean. They kind of lacked enthusiasm towards the audience and I could feel that the audience was also sensing that something was off. Definitely lacked in personality. But, they did what they came to do and got paid for it, singing. It was a good show and maybe I just had over expectations.

I could chat with you about this for a long time, Oldman, :D but I don't want to hi-jack this thread about the everly brothers.. so just to finish here by saying that Phil was the one who had all the solo hits... I have many favourites,..Look for ''Louise''.. or ''January butterfly'' sweet suzanne , and many more... and this my very favourite
