How about a thread dedicated to packaged goodies from our childhood that exist only in fond memory. I was just amazed at that. I was curious, one thing I remember distinctly was Fruit Float. A quick Google search and there are 70's websites and a whole bunch more waxing poetic over Fruit Float!

Then there was Fruit Helper, yep the same folks that helped your hamburger, tuna, and chicken could jazz up your fruit. I know the crumbs were yummy right out of the envelope. Then there was a product I had no name or brand for. It was in the frozen section and was a kind of milkshake maker.

The strawberry was a blinding bright pink and was meant to be mixed with milk. Then again spooned right from the container it was quite tasty. Interesting to think of today. My teeth did not thank me for those days. But I was a skinny kid. Guess our high play activity cancelled out the over the top calories.

Okay, now look up your goodies and share!

When I was a kid in Northern California (Lakeport), my Dad and my brother and I spent one year without Mom. She was working at north American Aviation in Los Angeles in the war effort. Most school mornings Dad would send us off to school with "fried mush" in our bellies. I loved it. Haven't had it since 1943.

One thing I remember, quite relevant to this forum, was Kraft Processed Cheese.

Used to come over in wartime food parcels, wrapped in a sort of waxed cardboard.

Most adults didn't particularly like it, presumably because they could remember pre-war cheese, but we kids loved it.

Another one, I guess it was the popularity of the space program... Astronaut Ice cream was hideous, these tasted like chocolate jerky

Not a "food" per se, but I fondly remember the Flav-R-Straws that flavored milk with nasty artificial additives as you sucked it through the straw. There was Carcinogenic Cherry, Gangrenous Gut Grape, and Sarcoma Strawberry. If you didn't like milk, there were also Pixy Sticks to rot your teeth and stain your tongue, while cutting out the middleman.

Did your mother ever make "apple" pie out of Ritz crackers? There was a recipe on the back of the box for years for Mock Apple Pie and I always wanted my mother to make one. She'd just look at me like I was crazy. Use Ritz crackers that you had to buy at the store when we had apple trees out in the yard just free for the picking?

Oh, and the Jiffy Pop thingamabobbies........I always thought those were the epitome of "elegance". But noooooo....at our house, popcorn was always made in a large pan shaken over the stove burner.

Velveeta was a major food group at my childhood home. It was cheap and you could put it in just about anything. Have you looked at the price of that stuff lately? Yow!

Yes! They had chocolate too. It was wrapped in some kind of tissue paper inside the straw, and eventually the tissue started to flake off. Yuck! :p

Love those little ice chocolates too.

When a kid, loved cheeze whiz on celery sticks. Never buy it now, so many ingredients.
