Favourite Fish

In Alaska there are five species of salmon:

Red (sockeye) salmon are best for eating,
Silver (coho) salmon are best for catching
King (chinook) salmon are best for bragging
Pink (humpback) salmon are best for smoking
Dog (chum) salmon are dog food

When she and I lived there, we ate a lot of salmon and halibut because those two were what we could get freshest. Here they're either flown in or it's "farm-raised" Atlantic salmon, which I don't care for. In northern New England, it's cod, haddock, and sole, occasionally tuna or marlin if it looks particularly good. Fresh clams, oysters, and scallops all have their place. All of the shrimp around here is "meh" ...

Funny, we lived in Maine for almost 25 years and neither of us care that much for lobster. Cook it maybe a couple times a year when friends come to visit from "away". Love king/tanner/snow crab but seldom find it for a reasonable price.
 
We in Scotland have access to some of the best fish that money can buy. Unfortunately ?? the best shellfish etc.. end up in high end restaurants across the UK and Europe and a lot of the pelagic fish end up in Japan.

One fish I like, but can't get here, is Black Scabbard. I've eaten it in Portugal - very nice.

Forgot to add, that for smoked salmon, we go to the Ugie smokehouse - built in 1588 and still smoking fish in the traditional manner. (The Ugie is the river running through Peterhead, one of Britain's largest fishing ports)
 

my fav is smoked mackerel cold ---- full of omega things lol
like sardines too ..
love rock ell from chippy ' but scares now ?
and of course pilchards cold in tomatoe sauce ...
 
I like plain old ordinary cod, the kind used in the fish and chips you get in an English pub.

I also like salmon a lot, and eat it at least once a week.

To look at, not necessarily to eat, I like rainbow trout.

We (grand daughter and I) love watching our gold fish swim in the pond outside, it's fun feeding them. As far as eating fish goes I don't like the smell of cooking fish (at all) so I don't eat it at home if I can help it. I do love good fish and chips and tend to like halibut the most. Love smoked fish with cheese, crackers and a nice cold beer.

Don't guess I have a favorite fish. I've had a large fish tank or two. Found them a pain to maintain, not worth the effort. No favorite in any of them. I used to think i liked catfish to eat but I suppose I've eaten more bass and crappie than anything else. Get right down it, I don't care too much fish.
 
Flounder, mackerel
Also shrimp, especially coconut shrimp, fried clams, conch fritters, fish & chips and Manhattan chowder.
Herring in wine sauce.
 
At one time there was a restaurant in Portland, Maine with a sign that read:

* Clam Chowder *
White - Cup $2.95 Bowl $4.95
Red - - 300 miles south

Salmon. Fresh from the local port, marinated in soy sauce and orange juice, walked past the flame twice. Yum!!!
