Favourite table games/sports

My wife and I play a lot of gin rummy. We've been playing it for so many years that the outcome is always determined by "luck of the deal", so neither of us really cares who wins. It's just something to do while chatting. With friends there have been many over the years, but the game du jour seems to be Mexican Train Dominoes. Challenging enough not to be tedious yet simple enough not to impede good conversation around the table.

As an aside, for those who use playing cards with any frequency, I can heartily recommend KEM brand plastic cards. Our son bought us our first set years ago and we just finally replaced them this past summer. A bit pricey for playing cards, but since we got them, using old fashioned paper cards just doesn't cut it. (And no - I have no connection whatsoever to anyone who makes or sells them.)

Haven't played it for awhile, but it's still hooked up and is fun...……...our Wii Game. Tennis, Bowling, Ping-Pong, Golf and a few others. If my wife could bowl, in real life, like she does on our Wii Game, she'd definitely be a Champion. She's that good.

She likes playing online Poker (fake money) and a House Building game on her iPhone.

What's your favourite table game/sport?

9 ball

Got roped into tournaments

Played against some noted sports figures

It was more fun just playing at my favorite watering hole

Ping pong

Got good early on

Wicked (legal) serve

Good defensive skills

Trophies are somewhere in the sea container

Best time was playing against the company CEO
Chinese fellow
Rather smart
First I’d ever heard of a 5.0 GPA
MIT I think it was

Anyway

An extremely good defensive player
We mostly played about 10 to 20 feet back from the table
Him and his pal, VP of some technical dept, Taiwanese chap, got very frustrated with my unorthodox style

Lunch hour games became rather intense…and tense
At first, his little buddy permitted me to play him just to get rid of me
Heh, I beat him five games in a row
He was disgusted
Refused to play me
It was beneath him

So, it was just me and my CEO
For months
We matched up well
Fun times
It really bothered him to lay me off
In heavy accent…’Gary, this tear my heart out…here’ (handing me an empty storage box to put my shit in)
My parting shot ‘you think it tears your heart out?’

Bernard Tsai

I need to look him up

(sorry for the long story)

Bar Billiards....

I was the ladies county champion in my younger day ...

Don't play much now, because Bar Billiards was always played in the public bar/games room of a pub, and since most pubs have become gastropubs, restaurant type bars , there's hardly anywhere now with a table, but I still like to play if I get the chance

So many... We lived in a house of cards. Parents played bridge, canasta, pinochle and a little penny-ante poker. Scrabble was big, too.

I continued with canasta, other rummy games, poker, set-back, casino. I played chess, checkers, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly, backgammon, Boggle, Yahtzee and it's cousin, Kismet.

I loved 8 ball. We had a pool table.

Both my parents bowled and my father played golf. Due to war wounds he couldn't run anymore.

Used to luv Air-Hockey, pool would be my second. Also liked shuffle board & the old bowling machines. Those two are next to impossible to find anymore.

Air hockey tables can be found in amusement arcades here.Theres one in Minehead that I used to make a beeline for on my boat trips.

Is that a British thing?....I have never seen one before. And I've been in, my share of bars here.

Oh, I forgot, when we go to Dave & Busters, we always have a good time in the game area. I can really get into the High Speed Motorcycle Video Racing. I hop on the bike, put the tokens in and.........away I go!

Was into free online poker for a while, on hold now. May get access to legal real money online poker before long, may try that. Was into chess many years ago, gave it up for many years, then just recently spent a few months or so on chess.com (quite good there). Got that out of my system, so I guess I may be done with chess for the rest of my life, lol. If I ever get a chance would like to get into some live offline poker too, never have yet.
