Fear of clowns-Coulrophobia

Clowns frightened me when I was a boy. They were supposed to be funny but behind the makeup and costumes, who knew what was lurking?
In the years since then I've always liked horror films and occasionally horror fiction.......I think it's an unconscious way of desensitizing myself to whatever darkness and awfulness is probably lurking in the world.
Clowns don't scare me anymore but they still seem like figures cast from a nightmare.
Steven King had it spot on!

Horror movies never desensitized me. Horror movies still scare the life out of me. I spook easy and screech at scary parts but laugh, laugh, laugh at funny stuff and I love laughing.

I think visiting carnivals and fairs were my first glimpse of what evil could possibly lurk around the corners. The men who ask us if we needed a lift home and things that could have happened.....

This has also made me realize that the bad things humans can do from someone you know , you might recognize as mental disorder but coming from a stranger, it’s just evil. It seems evil from people you know is more predictable than evil from people you don’t.

Clowns are spooky & disturbing. They never look funny. ( to me )

I've never been afraid of clowns, but have never been amused by them either. I just don't see what's supposed to be funny about that clown face.

I feel the same way. I'm not afraid of them, but I see nothing redeeming about them. (n) They seem a more icky than funny.
