Dear Microsoft: Thank you for your recent letter informing me that you will stop supporting Windows 10, effective October 15, 2025. I still miss my Windows 95 but that's a long story!

Furthermore, to your following suggestion telling me to purchase a new computer with Windows 11, I have recently read that Windows 12 might be out at the end of this year.

Tell you what Microsoft! Recently I have decided to look into purchasing a new Mac. You can't really blame me, can you?
That's what I'll be doing when 10 takes a hike.

When I finished scanning and paying for my two grocery items, a survey pops up giving you an opportunity to use stars to rate your experience. The young clerk came up and asked me to give a 5 star rating. My exact response was “NO.” She seemed shocked that I wouldn’t do it. Duh.
All those surveys - just data gathering.

I truly hate the "tell us about your experience" surveys.

As some of you know, I've been waffling about replacing the old, ugly carpet in this house. It was on our project list but when hubby died in October, I halted all further updates. I wanted it done but didn't want to spend the money....know what I mean?

Last week, I had Home Depot come in and measure all the rooms so I'd know the total square feet/yardage that was needed and then I'd have an idea about the price range I'd be able to look at. So, the guy came on Thursday and I got a text later that day that my measurements were received and I needed to call them (whomever "them" was) and tell them what I'd picked out. I hadn't picked out anything yet because I don't know what I can afford.

On Friday, I got a call from our HD store and asked if I knew what I wanted. I told him, no, because I wanted to know the room measurements first. He gave me an 800 number to call. I called and told her I wanted the measurements. She said I'd have to go to the store and pick out what I wanted and then the store would contact them and they would give me a price. WHAT???

Does this make any sense or am I just dense?? Don't answer that. My late husband and I had HD replace carpet in 3 other homes we had owned over the years and it wasn't a problem. We always got a print-out of the rooms with the measurements and then we had a total of yardage/square feet. I'm so disgusted. Maybe I'm keeping this ugly carpet a while longer.

I understand HD doing this. It isn't free for them to send out someone to measure your home - that worker has to be paid for his time.

Why not choose the carpet you'd want if the price is right and ask for a quote? It won't cost you anything to find out.

Yes, I had to pay $35 for the guy to come measure. That's the way it's always been. Even Lowe's does the same thing.

What I'm questioning is....I don't know how much carpet (in sq. feet or yardage) they measured for. I did my own room measurements and added 10% wastage. I'll go to the store this week and see what they tell me.

First, I hope you are okay
Second, whether you are or not, sue them for your fall. I'm serious. I think.
Luckily I seem to be OK and didn't wake up the next morning in the pain I was expecting. I think the Voltaren gel really helped.

Thank you for your kind words. That fall really ticked me off.

They did not give or send you a COPY of the measurements?!

Wow. I have read bad reviews of Home Depot's services online in my area. Seems they are well-deserved. Go with a small, local store. Call them first with a list of questions about how they do things and if they give you a copy of the measurements.

Might want to get your thyroid checked with a blood test. I'm quite serious.

Low thyroid, if it goes on for many months, can affect your brain functions turning you into kind of a developmentally disabled adult or a MEAN CUSS, leave you confused, depressed, foggy brained, lead you to make unwise decisions, etc., etc.

Cheap test - get it checked!
A few times in my life my thyroid has been suspect but so far my blood test indicate it is doing just fine. However, I will make sure the test is done again. I am desperate. I used a pill yesterday that helps me stay awake. I stopped using it because I thought it made my brain stupid and when driving that is a very bad thing! I pick people up and take them places almost daily. But for days I have taken a nap in the morning and the afternoon. This is not something I desire but I suddenly crash! I told my primary care provider and she ignored my complaint. I am hoping to get a different primary care provider.

Last week I missed a garden party because the only thing I could think about was getting to bed. My brain lies to me when this happens. It tells me I have nothing to do and I need sleep.

What REALLY ticks me off is "customer service" people who cannot speak clearly, speak slowly. It's bad enough that the agent cannot speak English very well. Now that I think about it, what should tick me off even more is the moron who hires a person who has a problem with verbal communication to work in a customer service capacity with the primarily English speaking public. It defeats the meaning of customer service.

What you do is this:
"I don't understand you. Let me speak with your supervisor" OR
"Send this call to an American customer service rep. NOW."

Works all the time for me. ALL.

eta
I prefer the second method. Puts company on notice.

I've done this... somehow they *do* (usually) understand the words for wanting to speak with someone else. I've said "I can't understand you. You can't understand me. Transfer me to someone who knows what I'm saying." A few years ago there was a call that was extra stressful. Finally they understood what I was trying to say (give me an English speaker!) and after a little more time, I heard "Hi, this is Angie, how can I assist you?" Man, I could have hugged Angie! :giggle:

If you don't mind my asking, what is your age? Don't be afraid to change PCPs. Usually you have to do that before the end of the month with most plans.

I hate the fact that so many of the phones in call centers are simply so bad. Not only does the CSR have an accent, many times the phone is just awful! So much echo, which also makes it hard to understand the CSR, and SO MUCH BACKGROUND NOISE.

I would use chat instead, but now it's all gone A.I. IF you can get to a real person on chat, you must go through the A.I. GAUNTLET of STUPID QUESTIONS with stupid answers first.

That could be an Escape Room feature - first room traps you with A.I. chat and you and your team have to figure out exactly what the A.I. wants you to ask before it will let you in the next room.

If agents are talking too fast, I simply tell them to slow down.

I am angry about my latest diagnosis-Macular Degeneration. This is addition to the skin problem that has no name, and chronic pain in my back. I am NOT looking forward to being encouraged to join a so-called- Pain Management group that will be about positive thinking and meditation. The medical group I belong to has decided that unless you are terminally ill, no pain meds for you. Thus the Pain Management group.

Pain management groups that focus on positive thinking and meditation should be re-named shamanistic hopium peddlers.
