FEMA and FCC Plan Nationwide Emergency Alert Test for Oct. 4, 2023

I knew this was coming but the reminder is welcome. As it is, the Amber Alerts that come over the phone always freak me out trying to figure out where the sound is coming from. I haven't had my cell phone implanted like others I guess. :ROFLMAO:

My cell is most often off and receives calls when turned off ... but may not pass emergency alerts. I don't get Amber Alerts or anything.
My house phone is VOIP over Spectrum, my Internet service provider.
... so will be interesting to see how it goes.

Since I am super cheap, my phone doesn't have cell data at all. I normally leave it in standby with even the WiFi and Bluetooth turned off which extends battery life a lot. Amber Alerts come through anyway.

If you don't get those now you probably won't get anything Wednesday, but I'm no expert. I guess you'll find out. Maybe what is changing is the ability to opt out is going away?

My phone is in my purse and always turned off, too. I was wondering if the alert would sound whenever I decide to turn it on again, but it sounds as if that won't happen.

After an amber alert tone woke me from sleep and scared the hell outta me I turned the tones off for that on my phone.
