A nine year old girl died at Hershey Park earlier this week while in the wave pool. Authorities stated that the girl was in distress and one of the ten lifeguards watching over the wave pool pulled her out. A witness that saw the lifeguard take her from the wave pool said the girl was limp at the time of her removal. She was pronounced DOA at the Hershey Medical Center.

The pool has since been closed pending further investigation. Whether it will reopen or not is unknown at this time. I have been knocked over myself while in a wave pool. Since that time, I try to glance at the smaller children to make sure they are safe, if I don't see a parent or another adult near them.

I am sure the parents are devastated. May God be with them.

Wave Pool Death

I remember many years ago when there was a death at a waterpark here that's no longer in existance.

A little girl from South America saw the "3" on the side of the wavepool, thought it was 3 METERS instead of 3 FEET, dove in headfirst and broke her neck. She lingered for a few days but then died.

sadly in a bunch of kids all laughing or yelling it is hard to see someone in serious trouble a scream can be mistaken for squeals etc.
Even with lifeguards i would think a adult would still be near i would be more concerned about be taken etc.
I feel for any family that loses a child doing something that seems so everyday and ordinary.

Such a sad, tragic story. May she Rest in Paradise. Deaths that occur when people are just trying to have a good time are all the more heartbreaking to me. I feel so sorry for her family, friends and classmates. May she Rest in Paradise.

If we have to continue having things like wave pools at amusement parks, it seems to me that common sense rules could prevent tragedies like this. Such as:

No one under the age of 16
No one shorter than (whatever)
Make the waves much milder and less dangerous
More lifeguards

I'm sure there are others as well.
