Fifty-five Years Ago Today

Seems longer than 55yrs ago. Times were so much different then.
Must have thumbed through my subsequent special edition National Geographic dozens of times
They even included a detailed moon map and small vinyl record that included Neil Armstrong's 'One small step' quote

We had driven from Providence, RI to Tulsa, OK to visit the in-laws. Our son was 2 tears old. Everyone gathered 'round the TV.

I'm amazed they could do this with the technology available at the time although there are those who say it was staged. What I don't understand is when the lunar lander took off to rejoin the orbiter, why did the camera pan up to follow it? Who was left there to do that?

At the time I didn't want to watch it, but my mom insisted it was a historic event and made me watch.

It was a long wait to lift off, so I FF it. Seems the thing finally took off about 30:40.

I think it was at 1:47 p.m. on that day (Sunday) when the Eagle had landed on the moon and 10:56 p.m. when Armstrong stepped on the moon.
