Fights and vandalism over snow cleared spots in Philadelphia

In Philadelphia there have been fights and vandalism over personally snow cleared spots after a winter snow storm. A fist fight over a spot eventually wound up with guns and knifes along with third parties jumping in. Other spots had cars that were vandalized, and drivers threatened.

The city says you can't save a spot(people leaving objects in spots). Seems like it comes down to the law(public streets) to respecting the personal effort of someone clearing a spot themselves.

Isn't that the place that used to be called 'the city of brotherly love'? šŸ˜’

Philadelphia, known as "The City of Brotherly Love," derives its name from the Greek words for love and brother, reflecting the ideals of its founder, William Penn.

Historical Context

Philadelphia was founded in 1681 by William Penn, a Quaker leader who envisioned a city that would embody principles of tolerance, community, and peace. The name "Philadelphia" comes from the Greek words philia (meaning love) and adelphos (meaning brother), symbolizing the city's commitment to fostering a harmonious and inclusive society.

So according to the news video.. the 45 year old man has the knife... the 21 year old man who attacks him has the gun, and then both put their weapons down and conitnue to fight , and a 36 year old woman picks it up...pistol whips the victim......

OMG I don't care who takes offence, I'm very happy not to live in the USA... guns and knives from adults, over a parking space... Unbelievable..

Please don't misunderstand.. this country has big problems in some deprived areas .... mainly with immigrant youngsters.. with knives who fight each other .... so I'm not dimissing the Uk having problems... but overall... this type of guns and knives being pulled on someone over such minor issues just don't occur.... thank God...

In the neighborhoods of Boston if you see a parking spot like this do not even think of trying to park in it.

Although the local residents may respect the signage many local governments do not including Philadelphia.

Philadelphia still dealing with a lot of snow removal complaints a week after the storm.

Snow cleanup continues across Philadelphia neighborhoods, a week after snowstorm

Seems like cities like Philadelphia should invest in smaller snow removal equipment for the close quartered probably older neighborhoods. Better snow removal equals better parking and fewer fights.

I was reading about stabbings taking a rise in commuting by trains in the UK. A massive attack just Nov. 3 So yes we just don't hear
very much about that over there. You may not have the gun problem of here but knives it seems is the weapon of choice there.
I wasn't reading or watching it on a you tube video. I have friends over there I was concerned about when I saw the rise in attacks on trains.
I do think the train on Nov 3 was one that runs from London, to where I don't remember.

A Massive attack...where ?...you got the link ?

There was one attack a few month ago which might be what you're referring to...some lunatic started stabbing random people on a train, ... he was caught and arrested... but that was the first anyone had hear of a train stabbing. Then there was a second in Scotland, where a guy who has been drinking and taking cocaine, stabbed a passenger with a broken bottle...

I have not heard of any massive stabbing attacks .. in this country!

As you friends here and were concerned about them, you might have been better off asking them directly if they're at risk !

Except for stupidity and an inability to control ones stupid emotions, there's no excuse for bringing guns and knives to a snowball fight, but I'm pretty sure you don't get several feet of snow in big cities over there, am I right? Having to find a parking spot within walking distance from where you work when the snow is thigh-high is kind of a major issue. 😜

I might be going out on a limb, but I bet Philly could afford a few decent snowplows and drivers if they made smarter decisions regarding the zombie population. (Philly Zombies = Frozen Folded Fentanyl Addicts)

Well we do especially in the Scottish cities.... and we don't have snow plows in this country,..no-one clears the snow aside from gritters the night before ... but I take your point ! I can imagine just how frustrating it must be to get a place cleared to park only for someone else to come and along and take it.... I would be furious too...

Yeah, no one has the right to claim a downtown parking spot no matter how much work you put into it.

Unless Philly hardly ever gets snow, I don't understand why city officials don't send workers to clear it out so that workers who pay them don't lose their minds. Those were stupid, horrible incidences, but they were preventable.

This has happened in other cities, also. They had a huge fight in Cleveland several years ago when a man shoveled out his car and put a chair in his ā€œnowā€ parking spot. Someone removed the chair and used his spot to park his car. The man who shoveled out the spot became enraged and took a baseball bat to the car. Someone told the owner of the car who damaged his car. He waited quite awhile until the man came out of the building and then a huge brawl broke out between the 2 men. Both were arrested.

I guess we shouldn’t hit our neighbors with a tire iron.

There are significant cultural differences between the UK and the USA.
In 1969 there was a huge concert in Hyde Park, London, it was as successful as it was peaceful.
In 1969 there was a concert at Altamont Speedway in California, it was neither peaceful nor successful.
That's indicative of those cultural differences.

Sadly, it is many in US have no common sense or perhaps lazy to clear their own spot. Things like this bring out the worst in people.

I can understand someone who put in effort to clear a spot angry others try to take it. In reality is it worth being injured or arrested or petty punks damaging your stuff from now on over.... nope. Escalation is often an item they will be dealing with long after snow is gone.
