Finish this sentence: Forgiveness is..

Forgiveness is easier than forgetting.

I can forgive because ‘boys will be boys, men will be men’ but I cannot forget the hurt. It will affect me until I die.
Forgetting is not only NOT required, it is not wise.

Would anyone advise anyone to forget something they did that got them physically injured (sticking fork in toaster, going to plug in or unplug something with a wet hand, trying to pet a Bison or Bear in a National Park)? I hope not. Why then should anyone be told to forget emotional harm (or physical) done to them by another human being. Especially if it was not a one time occurrence but part of a pattern?

One needs to remember who is capable of harming them. Trust should not be instantly restored with forgiveness, it needs to be earned. There are things in this world worth risking one's safety/well-being for, but self serving abusive attitudes and behaviors of others (even if they profess love for you) are not among them in my opinion.

True.

Forgiveness is often the only way to find peace.

Sometimes, it is impossible to truly forgive but, I think, unless we can find a way, even if it is only in our own hearts that we do, we will carry the grievance with us always. :(
