fire...again

the septic guy was here again and working outside a couple of hours. I finally decided to fry the sides of my last tuna steak and use it in a salad, so I started that up. The septic guy knocked on the door for payment and to discuss what he did and how to take care of it. Lily ( my chihuahua) began to bark , but I was ignoring her because she loves to play with people and always barks wanting outside with them. Then she suddenly jumped up and bit my butt very hard. I turned around and my stove was on fire. I grabbed the fire extinguisher and it did NOT work even though it was bought new. I ran for salt containers and dumped 3 full salt boxes all over the stove until it stopped. I cleaned up the mess and swept and mopped, but i'm still shaking all over. I'm afraid of fire since last years fire and it was hard for me not to just run away. AND people can gripe about my little Lily all they want, but thank goodness she knows how to get your attention when she has to. She's my hero today :) I'm still shaking..

Wow BW, thank goodness your little one got your attention! I'm glad you were able to put it out before it did any more damage. I don't blame you for being shaken up...hugs.

Thanks Shalimar & Ruth. I really try not to ever think about that fire last year, but this made the whole thing come alive in my head again. In my fire where my house burned up I barely escaped out the back door with my life. My gate was locked and my key to it was in the house. The smoke all went into the back yard and I laid down with my face on the grassy snow trying not to breathe it in. I was being overwhelmed by smoke. Then I heard my neighbors yelling " Hey little mama where are you? Where are you?!" I called back to them " I'm in the back yard!" Then suddenly there was a man's hand grabbing my hand he said " Come with me we are getting out of here." He was a UPS driver that had just been passing by and jumped out of his truck and over my 8 foot fence somehow. In my daze I thought he was a fireman when I saw his UPS uniform That shows how frazzled I was. He led me to the front gate and kicked all the boards out for me so I could get through. Then he vanished. That's when the police and firemen arrived. I was in my nightie. Neighbors came running with shoes and coat. The police woman was awesome & put me in her car away from the reporters who had just landed all over the scene. I took this picture with my cell phone. I know today was just a stove fire, but it scared the crap out of me..

Quick thinking, but wtf is up with the fire extinguisher?! Get that checked. Whoever you bought it from should replace it. Hope you rest easy tonight.

Good Dog!

BW, I've had firsthand experience with being in an apartment fire that took out my entire kitchen and adjoining dining room. It's frightening how the flames spread so quickly. How devastating that you lost a house, though you got out safe. Glad to hear you had the presence of mind to put the fire out with the salt. Your precious little dog deserves a Medal of Honour.

Yes. You understand..it's how fast it all goes up that is so scary. The speed of the fire while your knees are jelly and everything but the fire is moving in slow motion. My doggy got 2 little spoons of vanilla ice cream. Her favorite I don't usually let her have :)
