Fireworks

Last night (June 28), I was at a friend's house. We kept hearing loud booming noises. As the weather service had predicted severe thunderstorms, we thought that was what it was. Then, the booming and crashing became morre frequent and regular, and we thought some neighbor, or some idiot in a car, was playing very loud music with the bass turned way up.

We went outside, and saw that it was two fireworks displays in nearby parks. Everybody seemed pretty puzzled, as the 4th is still nearly a week away!

Have they started the fireworks early where you live? Do you like fireworks displays? Planning to go to any of the parks, or to a spot from which you can see them?

I love fireworks displays but not the associated crowds and traffic at the very few public displays in the fire-prone area of Southern California. On the 4th we stand outside our home and try to get a glimpse of the fireworks (legal and otherwise) that make it into the nighttime sky.

Yep, quite frequently the fireworks will be held on the Saturday night before the 4th, especially if they are part of a big festival.

It sort of makes sense. When the 4th falls on a weekday night, like Tuesday or Wednesday, most people have to go to work the next morning, kids have to go to day care, etc.

Fireworks can't start until full dark, which is usually after 9:00 p.m. Then one half hour to an hour of fireworks and at least an hour to get your car out of the mess and get home. Get the overly stimulated kids in bed and then try to get them up early the next morning. Fun's over.

So, I can see where the concept of Saturday night fireworks would work for families.

We always used to get together with extended family & set off our own fireworks. Now, none of them seem to want to do this. So, with just the three of us, we will probably go to one of the large fireworks displays on the 4th. I have Friday off, so a nice long 4 day weekend.

I don't really seem to like fireworks as much as I used to. I really used to get into lighting them off, it was a celebration and a way to have fun. Now, I just feel "eh". I think it's because we're just not with family like we used to be. When I was a kid, I could never decide which holiday I liked better, Christmas or July 4th. Now, neither one does that much for me.

For a long time New Jersey banned fireworks at home, now they say as long as they don't go over 10 feet in the air and some other restrictions as well. I'm sure people aren't going to pay attention to these rules and I've seen so many fireworks for sale in stores. I haven't been to public fireworks in years but my daughter and family will be here for the 4th so we will go. The local high school is going to have a display. I'm looking forward to it.

Pennsylvania has weird fireworks laws. For a time it was illegal to own some kinds, but it was legal to sell them???? Anyway, some of my neighbors don't follow the laws. Name a holiday and they are setting off fireworks. They obviously spent a lot on their fireworks. I'm quite sure they are illegal for PA, but again, with our weird laws, who knows. Their shows are really good.

I saw a fireworks display that I don't believe anyone can ever beat, so I'm good. In that instance, we were on the twenty- fourth floor of a hotel, very close to where the display was being launched. The rockets burst not that far from our large, picture window, or so it seemed, and it was like we were inside the displays. Truly amazing. After that, all other displays were anti-climactic. I really dislike the crowds, as well.

I live close to Canada, the Peace Bridge which connects our two countries is about 20 min away from where I live
The fireworks usually start on Sun 6/30 run thru the following weekend
There is a community patio on the 9th floor of my apt building. This is where residents come and watch the fireworks. In the day,you get a wonderful view of the city, especially if is a clear, sunny day Sue

Pennsylvania laws on fireworks changed last October. Some types are still illegal both by Pennsylvania & Federal laws. It’s best to check with local ordinances before setting off fireworks in Pennsylvania. Fines are pretty hefty if you decide to risk it.

Fireworks laws were made to protect the user and the public.

WE had a whole weekend of Fireworks last weekend in Spain. It was the celebration of San Juan and the summer solstice .. so there's bonfires on just about every beach, Friday , Sat and Sunday night. Lots of freshly caught Sardines being eaten..... and on Sunday night they firework display is fantastic. The event attracts hundreds of thousands mainly young folk high on substances , so we didn't go anywhere near the beach, but we could see the Firework display from the penthouse apartment where we were staying just a few km's away.. ...

I don't like the sounds of loud fireworks but do like how some light up the skies with pretty colors! They have started here too. I could hear them last night on the next street.

Yes, they're illegal here but they start setting them off a couple weeks before the 4th and usually continue for a week after. Same thing for New Years. We have to keep an extra careful watch on our fur-baby, they scare her and she has to go hide. I feel bad for her but since law enforcement can't stop them, I doubt there's much I can do but weather through. Don...
