Today I noticed our first bloom of the year. Spring is on the way.

We haven't had much of a winter here, 5 1/2 inches of rain so far and overnight temps in the 50's or high 40's. I haven't seen any frost, and no ice on the bird bath. The days are getting noticeably longer though, and I saw a male hummingbird do his mating routine yesterday. They do a fast U shaped dive to impress the female. Fun to watch. Before long the mockingbirds will be arguing over prime locations to nest.

Before Christmas, I used to set the paperwhite bulbs on top of small stones in a shallow container and add water to stay just under the bulbs. They would grow up pretty quickly and smell divine.
