Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law

Total insanity. Killing people to protect property, for crying out loud. I'm sure the vigilante minded folks are drooling at the opportunity to take out somebody.
Sadly I think you're right, Nathan. The quiet "thrill killers' among us are salivating for the opportunity to, as you say, "take someone out". Most would not admit it but some comments can make you think otherwise.

I enjoy some of the articles in the monthly issues of the NRA's "Rifleman". There's always a column on the "Armed Citizen" and they trot out one scenario after another regarding people threatened and assaulted, in their homes, on the street, etc.. Obviously the articles are to lead timid folks and/or thrill killers, to their nearest gun shop to stock up with weapons and ammo.
It's big business, the same as folks think of Big Pharma. More sales of medicines and drugs or in this case more weapons and ammo.

The same folks that criticize the medical side of it, arm themselves to the teeth, and the opposite holds true for those who don't live in fear of illness and not assaults. Take your choice!! And of course in some cases folks do both or neither?

I lived most of my life in Florida and finally got out because it became a too hot, overcrowded, crime and drug infested haven for every kind of of fraudster and scam artist there is.
Believe me when I tell you that there is not much to redeem the above. Perhaps if you live in a very small town it's tolerable but forget any large or medium sized city.

Fasttrax, it's better to live your life in such a way as to not need it (the gun) at all. Then, not having it is not a problem.

It's not a matter of how he lives his life. It's a matter of how the thugs live theirs.
Part 1 of 2

So very true rgp and thanks. No matter how well one lives their life, bad, good or otherwise and as careful as one could possibly be here, there or anywhere sometimes when the sheep feels the safest it will cross paths with the wolf.

Correct, Butterfly. And there is also a huge difference between using ordinary common sense in exposing yourself to danger, and fearfully quaking, seeing "bad guys" around every corner, and having your itchy finger constantly on the trigger. And make no mistake, fear is the motivating factor of these gun-toting vigilantes. (Plus racism, often.)

Not in favor of this law and hopefully, Florida’s legislature won’t pass it. We haven’t sold our house down there yet, but have had several bids. I purposely set the asking price at a ridiculous amount only because I can’t let go.

I do carry my weapon to most places, but I wouldn’t shoot anyone for looting, even if it was my place and I came home and found them in the act. I have insurance, so there wouldn’t be any loss.
I wouldn't shoot either - IF he left immediately. Very different outcome if he came toward me, OR if he tried to break in while I was home.

Well you can count me out of the racist mindset because I am 1/2 Colored. GOD Bless.

Whatever color you are, you can still be a racist. Racism is an equal opportunity offender.

And just FYI, I was not calling YOU a racist. I don't know you from Adam. But with the ugly confrontations between white supremacy groups and the Black Lives Matter supporters, and between white cops and black people getting shot, often in the back, or strangled, or otherwise tortured... well, wouldn't you have to admit that there just might be a teensy bit of a racist component in all this?
