Flying the Flag for Memorial Day

I'm trying to figure out how to fly my flag for Memorial Day, since my HOA has a lot of restrictions. I've had the flag for ever, and it had flown over the US Capitol Building before my (late) first wife bought it.

Do you display the Flag for Memorial Day at you home.

It's sad that we live in a country where this would even be a consideration.

I would put up the flag on Monday and by the time the complaints start rolling in Memorial Day will be over.

No one on my block ever said anything about me flying a flag....There are 2 more households who have American Flags...Other's in town have little flags in the ground for Memorial Day...Our town blocks
off roads for the Parade....For Memorial Day and Fourth of July, We have many people here that are Veterans of War....

Yes! I fly my flag on most national holidays and PROUD to do it.

Guy across the street has his out ALL the time; day & night.

Neighbor down the street flies his flying 24/7 and has it illuminated at nightfall.

I don't have a flag and if I did there would be nowhere but out my apt window to hang it...lol. The managers here have a large flag and small ones flying now.

Homeowners Association
Most of them are awful, pretty much dictating what you can and can't do on the outside of the property that you own,pay taxes on,etc.Examples would be same shed as everyone,no clotheslines, only certain paint colors, lawns need to be kept neat and on and on
And for the privilege of all this, you get to pay a monthly fee.
There was someone, not sure if it was here, whose HOA decided that everyone a garage doors needed to be open during the daylight hours...reason,I suppose to look uniform?
Didn't mention what the HOA would replace after someone came along and stole your stuff:)
You are aware of this when you buy your house so it's not a surprise.

If I may ask (and probably be thought mentally lacking), what is an "HOA"?

Home Owners Association. Groups usually started by a developer to make sure his tract grows in accordance with his wishes. Group that sets community standards for a neighborhood. Some folks love them. I just see them as a way to stifle creativity, and individualism.

I fly my lighted flag year round.

The topic of HOAs has been beat to death - this thread is about flying a flag for memorial day. Thanks.

You need to check with the HOA and find out what the restrictions are so you don't get into any trouble.

I know that some won't even permit you to display it in your window let alone hang it outside.

IMO it's criminal to prevent the AMERICAN flag to be flown. As for other flags .. tough patootie .. this is America !

We have both an American flag and the blue one for police support, and we fly them from our front porch all of the time. Most of the people seem to not know what the blue flag is about, and we have had several people asking us about it, and where we got it from.
Since we live in a neighborhood where there is a lot of fights and drugs, you can bet that most of the residents here do not support their local police, except for the older ones like us, who are grateful to have the police protecting the area.

Today, we had a girl , maybe in her early 20’s come up to the front door and ask about the blue police flag. She was all amazed, and told my husband that this was the REAL American flag (hand over her heart) and this was the flag that she pledged allegiance to.
She was so happy to find someone who was flying this real flag, and Bobby said he didn’t think that he should disillusion her.
Actually, he said she was pretty spaced out; so it probably would not have mattered if he had told her that she was pledging allegiance to the police support flag......

I know I'm late, but please allow me to share some flag etiquette (I am a 20 yr Air Force veteran).
Your flag ought to be either illuminated or brought in when it is dark (including inclement weather).
On memorial day; raise the flag to half mast in the morning. This is done by raising it to the top of the flag pole and then slowly (respectfully) lower it to half-mast.
At 1 pm; raise it to full-mast.

By no means a criticism ..... but Yanks really love their symbols, don't they ?

In American sourced movies, news and docos, I have noted that suburban street-scenes are often awash with Óld Glory'.
So many public figures seem to sport those little lapel badges.
Just about every uniform seems to have a flag patch.
And then there's the 'hand on heart' stuff.

It's almost as if they're trying to convince themselves, and each other, just how 'patriotic' they are.
Aussies don't seem to have quite the same need to flash it.

Yes, we do!

WHY the 'pride'?
It's an accident of birth really. You had absolutely nothing to do with it.
You did not choose your parents.
You could just as easily have been born North Korean, Iranian, Chinese or Israeli - all of whom claim similar brainwashed 'pride'.

I'm extremely thankful that my accident happened in the United States and not in one of the other countries that you mentioned.

I can't for the life of me understand why you would feel the need to challenge a person's loyalty and patriotism to their country.
