Here are excerpts from the article that explains the scandal.
"Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre is in hot water for his connection in the Mississippi welfare scandal involving the misappropriation of roughly $77 million. Favre -- who has not been criminally charged -- has denied knowing that the money he received for different projects was welfare money, but court filings, text messages and tax records have shed new light on the situation.

In the latest development, tax records obtained by ESPN and The Athletic on Sept. 28 show that Favre's charity, Favre 4 Hope, funneled more than more than $130,000 to the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation from 2018 to 2020. The charity was originally created to help charities that provide support to underserved and disabled children and breast cancer patients."

"The entire welfare scandal is Mississippi's largest-ever public corruption case. It involves money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, a federal program that provides grant funds to states and territories to help families in need. According to the benefits.gov website, "state-administered programs may include childcare assistance, job preparation, and work assistance."

This has been on the news a few times over the last couple of weeks. Did you see anything about it? Your thoughts?

From yahoo!sports...

Favre has yet to be accused of criminal misconduct in connection with the diversion of federal welfare funds for pet projects — and Favre’s own pocket. But he’s apparently concerned about the manner in which the dominoes are falling.

Favre has hired attorney Eric Herschmann to serve as lead counsel for his defense team. A person whose videotaped testimony periodically has appeared during the hearings of the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack, Herschmann formerly served as a White House lawyer for Donald Trump.

'I only agreed to represent Brett Favre after I did my independent due diligence and was convinced that he did nothing wrong,' said Herschmann.

'Brett enthusiastically tried to help his alma mater, a public university, that needed and wanted his help.'

'To be clear, Brett had no idea that welfare funds were being used or that others were involved in illegal conduct,' Herschmann said.

That declaration doesn’t mesh with text messages that create the impression Favre kept pushing for welfare funding even after being told by former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant that there were legality concerns regarding the money.

Yes, the article I linked mentioned that he has not been accused of criminal misconduct. But there are some damning communications between him and the money people in which he asked if anyone who found out about it would know where the funds came from. I don't see it in this article but according to a news report I saw, one official Farve was in contact with about helping him get the money responded "I'm too old for federal prison". That leads me to believe that he knew the funds he received were misappropriated. Of course, he has paid some of it back. I doubt he will face criminal charges but geesh! The man is worth $100 million, why siphon money from social programs to fund his project?!
