For All You Scots

I'd completely forgotten..I usually always remember... but today my mind was on other things...

My own Scottish goes back four generations... so not at all familiar with St. Andrews Day. Is anything done to celebrate the day (food, events, etc.) or is it more like a quiet commemoration?
I didn't think that there was anything special going on, Kate, but
it seems that I am wrong, I have been out of Scotland for a very
long time, that is my excuse!

It is nothing like St Patrick's Day, (yet), maybe they are aiming in
that directions.

Here is a link that might help.
St Andrew's Day - The Patron Saint of Scotland

Mike.

Another here with Scottish ancestors. Heritage from the Cameron clan.
Enjoy St. Andrews Day.
As you're probably aware..I'm Scottish born and raised, to Scottish Parents and Irish Great grandparents.. so Celtic blood runs through my veins. I;d have said whisky, but I hate that stuff ..lol... anyway this is long winded way of telling you, my Father was a Cameron.. on his paternal side.. and my mother was a Campbell... so the Auld enemies were joined in wedlock... but like the Clans themselves.. they were a warring faction

My high school Latin teacher was Scottish. Same surname as my maternal grandfather. No idea how she found that out, but she wanted me to dig into it, thinking we might be related. I thought it was weird, but I was just a dumb kid. Maybe she might have put me in her will and by now I'd be heir to Bonnie Prince Charlie's lost gold.

Holly I am not surprised as I have read many of your posts...what a great mix, Cambell and Cameron.....I guess the war is over for sure...

No bagpipes or tartans for me. My people were all Scottish Central Lowland dwellers, probably busy stealing cattle from the English. I'm a Watson and except for an adoption two generations earlier that would have been my birth name.

MY maternal family are Irish..the surname is Campbell...

however for Scottish Irish clan ancestry you have to take the surnames of each parents , and each grandparent on both sides..

For example.. ( I won't give the real names on here of my ancestors for security reasons).. take my maternal Grandmother ..Scottish born ( name Anderson ) her mother my great grandmother Irish and her name Cassidy .... but then my maternal Grandfather was name Campbell, which I've already mentioned.. and Scottish, but his father and grandfather..my great grandfathers,, were Irish...

Then you'd have to do the same with your paternal side.. Grandmother maiden name.. mine was Scottish McLaughlin...( not the real name) and her mothers maiden name was Scottish McAllister ( not the real name) ( my great grandmother) but her father, was McLaughlin.. Scottish...

Then my paternal Grandfather name Cameron , Scottish ... and his father and mother my great grandparents before him , were Irish.. name O'Donelly ...and so it goes on...

Gimme a break I’m only 1/4 :)

Likkle Grandson, however, is ermmm… *gets slide rule out… erm… 1/2 plus his Mummy’s half of my bit. Erm…. 5/8ths? :ROFLMAO:
