Hi Dr. Colosso! Yes, the family settled in Vermont where they operated a ski lodge.

We stopped by the Von Trapp lodge in Stowe, Vermont several years ago. It's a lovely setting and the rooms aren't terribly expensive. The view from the lodge is gorgeous. We had lunch but didn't stay there.

I don't know if any of the Von Trapps are still actively involved in running the lodge. Nobody was warbling Edelweiss in the lobby and there weren't any lonely goatherds in sight......

We lived in Norfolk VA for three years in the sixties. My husband's office was in the same building as a movie theater. The Sound of Music played in that theater for an entire year and then some.
