For The Love Of Cats

That look when somebody tells you on Sunday morning that it's time to wake up and get out of bed ...

I once had a cat in the 1970s that looked just like that, even to the white spot on it's chest. His name was Mousie.

Who would not love cats? My wife and I always were dog lovers.

Do you remember the quote from the movie "The War of the Roses" (1989) with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner? Danny DeVito resumes at the end that "dog lovers should marry dog lovers and cat lovers should marry cat lovers". I even asked my wife before marriage if she is a dog or a cat lover. Both of us were dog lovers, as I already wrote.

But then something happened. Our neighbor's young cat befriended with us. At that time we refurbisehd my parent's house and didn't even live there. But she came to us rubbing her head on our legs and even jumped upon us while we were sitting at the first meeting with her.

Every time we came to work there she also came to visit us. During a cold winter with much snow she came although she had to plough through the snow and got wet.

As we moved into the house in 2011 she visited us every day and some time later she moved into our house. The neighbors were more than okay with it, since my wife paid for a complicated neurosurgery that cost 2000 Euro. After the surgery they didn't even come to us to look how their former cat recovered from the surgery.

We had some very happy years with her and I told the female neighbor that her cat is the biggest gift for us in our life.

Here she is, our Lilou. She died on March 8 (International Women's Day), 2019.

@ George 1959, Lilou what a precious pic, memories are so special. 🤗

I put my 18 year old cat Ruby to rest the day before Christmas Eve this
last year. The precious pics and memories, forever remembered...

Both were very happy, my wife and Lilou.

As I wrote, Lilou came to us from a neighbor of the other side of the street. They told us, that she doesn't like being touched. But the first "cuddling session" between Lilou and my wife lasted six(!) hours. My wife could only interrupt it once for using the bathroom.
Lilou picked your wife as her human:>)

Thank you, yes, we often talk about our memories regarding to Lilou, although we had put her to rest in March 2019. And we have lots of pictures and short videos of her.

It is always sad, if a beloved family member must go, especially the day before Christmas Eve.

When my son was in grade school (I can't remember which grade), he came home carrying a large box with a little kitten inside. His teacher had given it to him--one of her cat's kittens. She had not asked my permission. I could not break his heart and tell him to give it back so we kept it & loved it. As a single parent with no job (SSDI) and could not afford cat litter, I'd use torn up pieces of newspapers for its cat box.

As the kitten grew and I seldom had fresh newspaper to replace the used pieces in the box everyday, two apartment neighbors complained of the cat feces odor (very embarrassing). Landlord said, no cat, or move. It broke our hearts, but because I couldn't afford to move at the time, we had to take her to the humane society. To this day, I wish I had taken the kitten back to that inconsiderate teacher, before my children became attached to it, and it to us.
