For those interested in learning more about the loss of smell symptom of Covid-19

I think any respiratory illness can temporarily cause a loss of smell.
15 years ago, I had a cold - not a bad one, just congestion & a cough. After everything cleared up & I was breathing freely, I had a complete loss of smell & taste that lasted a few days. It was really weird to breathe freely & not smell anything.

I think there are many more things about this particular virus that we don't know than that we do, especially with after effects. That will take time and study.

From the virus' point of view, I wonder what it has to gain by affecting the breathing part of the brain? Maybe that part is just more vulnerable?
