Ford's Production Cut In Half

Reading this I'm glad I bought my F150 last Monday/ I wonder if Ford will raise the prices because if this news.

Due to the months-long microchip shortage, which was compounded recently by a fire that crippled a chip supplier’s factory in Japan, The Blue Oval expects to build half as many vehicles during the second quarter of 2021 than it originally expected. Rising sharply from the 17 percent production loss FoMoCo reported for Q1 2021, the grim estimate for Q2 seemingly indicates that the situation at Ford assembly plants will likely get even worse before it improves.
 

Was there much inventory when you were looking at any of the dealers? When we drive or walk along auto-row, so many of the lots have bare minimum or less.
 
We are already seeing it at the Woodhouse Ford dealerships in the little town I live in. Normally, customers will come in from neighboring towns because the stock is so huge. Now, these dealerships look like ghost towns. They maybe only have 1/4 of what the inventory was a short time ago.

I bought a new Jeep Cherokee last November and I'm thrilled I got my new car then when the inventory was still strong.

One of the casino's we like to visit in Kansas City has huge parking lots. A big Ford plant, nearby, rents a huge lot out back to store hundreds of new trucks and vans, while they are waiting to be shipped. We were up there a couple of months ago, and the lot was empty.

You might be looking at unfinished trucks & cars. Ford is filling lots with vehicles waiting for parts to finish assembly. Sad.

Nope, the vehicles that are usually stored at the casino are finished, running, and ready for transport all over the nation. The KC Star article I posted says that both the Ford and GM plants have been shut down, and the employees furloughed until sometime in May....due to this shortage of parts.

Try buying any appliance these days. Waitlists for kitchen and laundry appliances are common - 3-8 months, judging from posts on the Houzz/GW forums.

Hopefully, that is a West Coast problem. Our old dishwasher is starting to make some funny noises, and I just checked the local Lowe's and Home Depot websites, and they show a fairly good inventory of all the major home appliances...I'll be surprised if we don't have to buy a new one before Summer.
