Former McDonald's employee reveals alleged 'secrets' she learned at work: 'Will never eat there again'

f you’ve had a tough job before, you know how relieving it can be when you can finally walk away and talk about it.

TikTok user jodessy, whose name is Dessy Joseph, has been sharing “secrets” she said she uncovered while working at McDonald’s. She admitted that each location of the fast-food restaurant is different and she can only speak for the one where she worked.

I seriously think it depends on where it is & the people working there. I worked at a McDonald's & I've seen my share of things but nothing like that.

After years of being in food service & witnessing some of the things I've witnessed...I can honestly say that when they tell you they care about the customer...it's BS.

Most places only clean up & follow guidelines when state or fed surveyors are coming through. The rest of the time their main goal is to make it look like they're doing what they're supposed to. That's it. They don't even give a rats ass if an employee comes to them with a sanitation concern. Most employees in food service don't give a s**t about doing it right. They're more interested in getting it done. When you eat out you are trusting strangers to properly handle & cook your food. It's up to you whether or not you feel lucky enough to do that.

It's like many other work places in the big national companies especially. Each location, region or district is different yet supposed to be on the same page. High turn over jobs are subject to don't give a hoot local management, not because they get fired but they can barely find enough employees to keep that location open at which point lack of business/income will get them fired.

I always heard in Micky Ds and other fast food one thing is they don't change the grease/clean the frier with regularity along with those employees that flat out don't give a poop as described above. Food on the floor will wind up in your mouth along with the bacteria from lack of proper cleaning or the hairs that drop in food in fast food in particular(last big issue I had a Mickey Ds). It's kaos with only a few employees that know what they are doing let alone conscientious.

It's not always poor pay either. Miserable employees cop an attitude and take it out on management and customers biting the hand the feeds them. Bad attitudes can contimate a location in a heart beat.

I used to think the restaurant/bar rescue shows were exactly that but stuff they reveal actually happens in the industry. By the same token I know people who love to play ms consumer returning everything and anything for the smallest thing. I've been around them when they order delivery or in a restaurant and over 50% of the time a redo or refund is demanded. That doesn't help either although fast food employees shouldn't take it personally. Then again costs and ridiculous customers that cost money instead of making need to be dealt with.

There are so many things that would make you people never want to eat out again if you saw them. I try to be in charge of handling my own food or letting the ones who work safe handle my food. The minute I see something iffy...they go on my mental list. I could write about the things I've seen over the years but, I think it's like knowing how they make candy corn. I coulda went my whole life not knowing that. Now I do. I can never eat them again. 😒

In high school one of my closest friends was the manager of a local Howard Johnsons. In HIGH SCHOOL. Everybody who worked there, almost, was also a high school student and what was done to food there was unspeakable so she said and I can believe it.

I think that it's too easy to single out fast food places for ALL of our scorn. Over the years I've heard some pretty nasty stories regarding some of our "finer" local restaurants.

That's the thing it does happen at local restaurants as well. But they don't have the national foot print, corporate policy or resources many of these big chain restaurants have. That's what makes this a little more unique. I will say I've heard stories of local owners even though they're the money people don't know squat about restaurants or cooking, it's just a business venture to them.

As Chic noted there are high school kids running these places by title or even being the most experienced person on duty. A few might have a nac for it or be detail oriented/conscientious but most aren't.
