Former US President Carter enters Hospice Care

Jimmy Carter has “decided to spend his remaining time at home” in hospice care after a series of short hospital stays, the 98-year-old former president’s family said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement, issued by the Carter Center, said the ex-president’s choice had “the full of support of his family and his medical team”. It also said the family “asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his admirers”.

Carter, a Democrat, was president of the US from 1977 to 1981. The late Ronald Reagan, a Republican, succeeded Carter after defeating him at the end of his lone term in the Oval Office.

Carter won the 2002 Nobel peace prize for his sustained efforts to improve life for people living in poverty.

Like @Tish ..
I've always liked The peanut farmer Ex President.

I@m not so up on US politics to know whether that's a popular view or not.. but as a an outsider we always viewed him as one of the good guys!

I'll be sad to lose Jimmy, but I guess its just a matter of time. He's had a long life, and a good one.

I would not call him the greatest president or politician, but I believe he was the most honest. A rare trait amongst our politicians...

I voted for him, twice.

Long ago Jimmy visited the Florida house I lived in. Unfortunately that was before I owned the house, and I never got to meet him. It was a beach house that belonged to Jimmy's long time lawyer and friend. Even before Jimmy became famous. The lawyer used it as a party house and invited lots of guests. We just lived there.

A word that best describes him, I think, is decent. He's always been a decent, moral, honorable person.

May I just brag a little? Just a little? Many years ago when the Carter Center was just getting started and IT was in its infancy, President Carter was outlining a book. DS (yes my DS!) taught him to use the computer.

Makes a mama proud.

Sorry to disappoint... I have not had fried peanuts. I have had the boiled peanuts in Plains and they are good (not a big fan of them elsewhere, they just taste like black-eyed peas to me) As to Pres. Carter, I pretty much passed his house every time I was in Plains; it's right on the main road going through town. I wish him all the best and a hug for Rosalyn

Jimmy Carter is one of my most admired presidents. I voted for him both times. When he gave the nation updates on the economy, foreign affairs, and told us to turn back our heat, he gave us the truth. He may not have been the best president, but he was the one with the most integrity.
A remarkable man, a wonderful family, and leaves us all someone to aspire to. Habitat for Humanity flourished when Jimmy got involved.

Harken back to a time, when humor crossed party lines, even in dire times. I keep thinking of the "killer" rabbits, which he even seemed to find humorous. Of course, it was also a time before 50,000 social media sites, operating 24/7.

We have certainly progressed over the years. /s

When he was President I was pretty young and only thought of him as being a peanut farmer and his brother Billy having his brand of Billy Beer. 🤣

Now, I realize what a great man he was and how much he has contributed to the welfare of people around the world. This is a great loss for humanity.
