Former US President Carter enters Hospice Care

A word that best describes him, I think, is decent. He's always been a decent, moral, honorable person.
That's why he is my favorite president. So much of a what a president does is dependent upon congress, wars, happenstance, public opinion at the moment and things I can't even guess about. So I vote for whoever I think is the best man rather than the issues.

I was in Plains, Ga.,about 10 years after Carter left the White House. I went into a store, and asked where Carter's home was-just wanted to see it. They said Carter was just there, and he left on his bike. They added that Carter like to meet people, and I should stop in to meet him. Everybody in the store assured me that Carter was happy to have people knock on his door.. We drove up to the house-it was a nice house, but no way a mansion. There were no guard houses, fences etc. I didn't have the guts to walk up to an Ex-President's house and say hi. Damn, I wish I had knocked on that door.

I see a lot of use of the word 'honorable' but in my humble opion I feel differently. But with all due respect to a dieing man (and not the exprez) I will hold my tongue!

I think that most Canadians saw him as a nice man, who wasn't nearly as aggressive as some previous American Presidents had been. JimB.

Harken back to a time, when humor crossed party lines, even in dire times. I keep thinking of the "killer" rabbits, which he even seemed to find humorous. Of course, it was also a time before 50,000 social media sites, operating 24/7.

We have certainly progressed over the years. /s
Thank you for bringing up the "killer rabbit" story. I love it. I think Carter was a decent guy, who tried to do the right thing.

President Carter is a good person and a kind and compassionate man. I wish the best for him and his family during this sad time.

If more people lived their lives helping others like he did the world would be a much better place. While most ex presidents golf and charge big bucks for giving speeches he created a legacy with habitat for humanity which will live on in his memory. He is a rare excellent human being.

.. and today is President's Day

A presenter on the radio this morning was talking very highly of President Carter, I had no idea about all the projects he helped with. Sounds like a great man.

Had inflation not run at a double-digit level and the Iranian hostage crisis gone on endlessly during his administration, Jimmy Carter might have been a two-term president, but he was portrayed as weak and ineffective, which led to his ouster. Who can forget the “WIN” buttons, which stood for “Whip Inflation Now?” I always enjoyed the folksy back-stage show with the Carter family; “Miss Lillian” his venerable mother, and his embarrassing “Brother Billy.” Jimmy was a relatable guy…he even confessed in a Playboy interview to “lusting in his heart.” He also saw a UFO while in the Navy… 🛸

He’s been called our best ex-president, he never lost his moral compass, and his was a life well-lived. I’ll always like and respect “Jimmy…”

I don’t really remember much about him, except what we were taught in high school when he was first elected. My Gramps was a Republican and Grandma was a Democrat. When they would start a debate about the election, they would go back and forth until I would have to go to my room. I would say, “I got homework to do so I’ll be upstairs.” And then they would keep going on.
