We were driving home a few hours ago and walking down the sidewalk was a male beagle mix all by himself. I stopped the car and we got him in. A brown collar but no tags. Well fed, great fur, maybe a senior or just light naturally. Very mellow and friendly...I couldn't even consider bringing him home, Sophie being her DA self.
But around the corner is a groomer who does rescue work. We took him there. We live between three towns so I called each police department in case someone calls them. Then I posted on two local lost dog sites. I just feel like I should be doing more. Poor guy, the nights go way below freezing this time of year, I couldn't leave him out.
I'd just feel bad if he has people looking for him. Then again there are folks who move or whatnot and the dogs get left on their own. In any case the groomer will probably post looking for his humans. She has kennel space and foster families so I know he's better off than on the streets. They'll find him a home if there's no family.
