@Mike , this is your local hospital have you heard this news ?

Fourteen security staff at an NHS hospital have been arrested after allegedly sharing CCTV footage of themselves being over-forceful with members of the public.

Scotland Yard said its detectives were investigating the 'improper use of CCTV' by contractors working in security for Croydon University Hospital in South London.

Police revealed they found the footage on a mobile phone while investigating an 'unrelated matter', and all 14 arrested people have been bailed until June.

Officers also said today that the footage shows 'interactions between security and members of the public on hospital grounds where force was used'.

The hospital, which had security provided by a firm called ICT Secure, has now appointed an interim in-house security team led by its security manager.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'Officers from the South Area Safeguarding Unit are investigating the improper use of CCTV by contracted workers, who provide security services at Croydon University Hospital.

'The investigation was launched after CCTV recordings were found on an individual's phone as officers were making enquiries about an unrelated matter.

'At this stage, 14 people have been arrested. They have all been bailed until June. Investigation continues; the hospital is assisting officers with their enquiries.

'The footage shows interactions between security and members of the public on hospital grounds where force was used.'

No staff directly employed by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust are involved in the investigation, which only relates to those employed by ICT Secure.

Yes hollydolly, that is the nearest NHS Hospital, to where I live, it
is an partnership with St George's Hospital, Tooting, my hospital
of choice, though I have used Croydon.

The security is not part of the NHS, they are a separate company,
who's workers seem to think that it is funny to oppose sick people
and/or their visitors, I am glad that they are caught, hopefully they
will be made an example for all other security companies, wherever
they operate.

Many years ago this hospital was called "Mayday Hospital" and it
had a bad reputation, about how good it was and eventually the
name became the "Maydie Hospital", much to the horror of the
very good and well trained staff, so it became a University after
partnering with St George's and changed the name, but many,
including myself, still use the Mayday name.

Mike.

Mike.

Treating sick people poorly is truly a disgusting act.

I hope that they can prevent this from happening in the future.

I am in the US. I have had horrible medical care since the 90s, and even in the 80s it was already getting poor.

In the 60s and 70s I absolutely remember getting good quality medical care.

yes I did post that they're outside security, but still, it's appalling this should happen in a hospital.

Funny you should mention St George's..I used to go there for my consultant when I lived in West London ...

There is a famous psychological experiment about prisoner and guards, called the "Sanford Experiment". They took a bunch of college kids and made them guards in a make-believe prison and another bunch as 'prisoners". They were all classmates. Within a few days, the 'prisoners' were naked and being beaten, the guards had to be called "Sir". They had to shut down the experiment. What was shocking was that after only 24 hours, the 'guards' hated the 'prisoners' as scum, and dregs. Having authority over their fellow classmates gave rise to sadistic tendencies. Unfortunately, I feel this is a common thread with police/security organizations. The best ones try to counter it.

Since I don’t see what the videos show, were they of the guards being jerks or were they of incidents where they’re doing a video to CTA’s in case someone disputed what happened? Have they shown the clips on TV?

It reminds me of when I was a slick-sleeve in the service and somehow these other enlisted swine like ourselves got to give us an inspection. They must have thought they were hot shits. Being new, we just took it.
