I can't believe it and my heart is broken! Frankie Beverly, lead singer of Maze, died on September 10th! His vocals captured my heart as soon as I first heard Happy Feelings, a song that brought out powerful emotions in me because I was quite lonely at the time. I became a staunch fan, buying their albums and attending three concerts. I always felt that Frankie sang his heart out; gave it his all. And Maze always sounded just as good, if not better in person. That's something that cannot be said about many bands.

I met him just once, a very brief encounter, after waiting for what seemed like forever for the band to emerge from the theater's back door after the first concert we attended in 1984. The last time I saw them was with my son in Atlantic City on May 13, 2017 when they were part of the annual Mothers' Day concert.

Frankie Beverly and Maze, who were discovered by Marvin Gaye, are and will remain a very important force in the Black music culture. Their song Before I Let Go (posted by @Aunt Bea in the first comment...thank you), has been sampled so many times and always gets played at weddings and parties. But that wasn't my favorite by them. If you are not familiar with their music, you've been missing out. Follow this thread because I will be posting some of their best. Rest Peacefully in Paradise Frankie. You will be sorely missed!
😢

These two are among my favorites:

This song was written by Frankie Beverly as a tribute to Marvin Gaye (pictured at the end). But "Silky soul singer" certainly applies to Frankie himself.

I'm sorry to say @OneEyedDiva I was not familiar with him or his music. I have listened to the first video and I like it.

I'm so sorry for those that have enjoyed and lost his music.
